This course was a very good learning experience for learning WordPress Development for Themes and Plugins.

By Ventsislav Iliev on 8/20/2020

Very good course. I have only 1 question: On the last video in the last section, you were talking something about some other sections with the other Wordpress API's. Where is this section or is it separate course?

By Christophe Perez on 7/2/2020

I learned nearly everything I wanted to learn about WordPress theme and plugin development. The plugin development section should explain further how the settings saved in the database can be called and used on the frontend. But, overall, it's a great course. Thanks, Zac!

I am a seasoned professional with extensive PHP, MySQL and javascript web development experience. But I needed a class to explore the WordPress-y way. This was a very well organized class that was clear explanation of a tool that has a bit too much spaghetti architecture. Explaining it such an organized way helped tremendously!

It is a lot of WordPress theory and not enough examples to make them practical. It is, however, a great reference to guiding me to finding an answer elsewhere (i.e. Codex reference point).

A lot of minor nuances really just annoys you through the course:
1) From the start of the course, you notice there's mis-consistency between what he says and what he has written in his code.
2) We also see a different drop down menu between his supposedly cleanly installed WordPress theme and ours.
3) He tells you to use certain plugins and does not show you the installation process (some are not as simple as they seem and you must do some digging to know the correct way to install these)
4) He does this very annoying thing where he would. 1) Write code 2) preview the code 3) Modify the code 4) and just jump to a new code. Why are you not previewing the code after the modification?
5) He corrects a mistake in programming, but forgets to correct it in the files ... He also explains a certain file of code but on the links he places a different file.
6) And many other minor stuff which I wasn't in the mood to note.
Also, this course has been created 5 years ago and when I finished the course, I literally felt that he has done nothing to reflect that he has updated it for 2020. Annoying and very unprofessional IMO.
He does though something that I appreciate a lot is that he does those 'spot lights' while he's explaining on what he wants to focus on and I find that interesting and a nice touch.
So why am I rating this course high?:
1) His background in teaching in a classroom really shines in this course. The way he explains is exactly like how a teacher would explain to students. The whole course just flows smoothly.
2) He also excels at explaining the most important WordPress functions, tags, and hooks as he can. Now he doesn't build a theme from scratch and he does use a barebone theme, but I guess that's the best way to immediately dive into the related functions and understand how to do things in WordPress. He covers MANY functions in WordPress and the way he explains them is amazing.
If he would create a new course for 2020 with all those minor and annoying mistakes fixed, I would definitely go ahead and purchase that because he really has a very nice method of explaining things.
I also heard him being interviewed on a podcast and the interviewer basically remarked the same thing.

I got to know many wordpress development details.
There is a lot still to learn, specially in most common plugins like woocommerce (about which I just started to search for a complete development course).

Amazing Course, Amazing Teacher, Only teach practical things about WordPress. it's an In-depth Course. so if you're planning to learn WordPress development this is the course for you.

By Gregorio Caellas on 4/26/2020

I liked the course very much but I didn't like at all the end.
It seems like the author went on to something else without finishing the course commenting that we would see something else in the next sections.

I absolutely loved this course because it spoke directly to me in a language that I understand (I am a software engineer getting into WordPress). If you have some background in coding, you will find that this course is fast-paced enough and gets straight to the point. If you do not, however, I'd suggest you either be prepared to spend a lot of time going through the exercises, or maybe find some intro courses to WP and a programming language like JS or PHP. Highly recommended!

Chock full of good information, glad I took the time to go through and practice each piece. Will be looking forward to my next course!

This course is exactly what I wanted to give me a good overview of how to develop themes using wordpress.
