Course Description

Have you ever wanted to create a Web application but didn't know where to start? Have you previously tried to learn Django but got fed up with incomplete YouTube videos and poorly written tutorials? Or are you looking to move your code from Django 2 to Django 3?
THEN THIS IS THE COURSE FOR YOU!
In my Django course, I will walk you through the Django web framework from beginning to end! I'm a self-taught programmer so I know what it feels like to start from scratch. I care about your learning, but even more importantly... I care about you!
What is Django?
Django is an open-source web framework that is written in Python. It was created about twelve years ago, but new in 2021 we have Django 3 with a whole new set of features and capabilities!
Django is an amazing framework for web developers because it provides the infrastructure required for database-driven websites that have user authentication, content administration, contact forms, file uploads, and more. Instead of creating all of these features from scratch, you can use the Django framework and utilize these components that are already built, and focus your time on developing your web app instead.
If you're going to be working with Python, especially for web applications or web design, you'll want to learn the Django framework. It will save you a ton of time!
Contents and OverviewI believe we learn best by doing. So, throughout this course you'll be presented with coding quizzes and challenges in order for you to test what you just learned. This format will allow you to actually learn Django and not just follow along like a robot ;)We will use Python in this course, so if you have never used Python before, we will start with a python refresher to get you up to speed (no other python experience required).
We will then dive into making three complete websites:
1 - Password Generator: A simple website to create a random password with several options. You will learn how to:
Install DjangoCreate a new projectWork with Django's URL routingCreating TemplatesSubmit and handle HTML form data2 - Personal Portfolio: Create your own portfolio to show to potential employers showing off your resume, previous projects, and a fully functional blog. You will learn how to:
Add apps to your projectWork with models and databases (including SQLite)Access the admin panelCreate super usersMake a responsive website with Bootstrap 4Work with static and media filesExtending TemplatesFormating dates and purals3 - Todo Woo: A website where a user can sign up for an account, and fully manage a todo list with the ability to create, edit, and delete. You will learn how to:
Work with the authentication system (sign up, login, logout)Create virtual environmentsEstablish model relationshipsRequire login for certain pagesCreate a CRUDapplication (Create, Read, Update, Delete)Queries and filtersHandling ErrorsI will also walk you through Git, which is an awesome tool for developers that allows you to create multiple versions of your code. I'll explain why this is useful and help you understand why you should use it.
Additionally, I will show you how to take the projects that you made in this course and publish them live on the web through Python Anywhere. Like I said, I will take you from the very beginning to the very end!
Course material is regularly refreshed to include all of the newest updates and information. Additionally, I have made this course downloadable, so you can work through the class offline, making it as convenient as possible for you! Most instructors won't allow this, but I want you to be able to enjoy this course in whichever way is best for you :) Don't waste your time scouring the internet and trying to piece together how to learn Django on your own. Invest in yourself, and allow me to teach you Django while having fun.

Nick Walter

Hi! I'm Nick, and I love to code.About five years ago I decided that I wanted to learn to code, but I had limited access to programming resources, and I was getting frustrated with all of the YouTube videos and online tutorials out there. I experimented, struggled, and definitely failed a lot, but I finally got the hang of it, so I decided that I wanted to change the way that people learned to code, and I started teaching. My experience as an online student has directly influenced my teaching style, because I know what it is like to be in your shoes.
When Apple announced their new programming language, Swift, in 2014, I made my big online teachingdebutandcreated the internet's first Swift course.Since that time, I have become a full-time online instructor and I now have courses not only in Swift, but also in iOS, Android,Django, Kotlin, Python, HTML, Blockchain, etc.I have also created five iOSapps from scratch that are currently live in the App Store and arebeing used by thousands of users worldwide.

I love sharing my excitement for coding with my students, and I try to make learning as fun and as easy as possible. Thanks for being part of mycoding community!

Excellent foundational class for Django! Awesome teacher! Very well organized class with amazing projects that lays technical foundations for any web-base projects.

Yes, it was a good match. To comprehend the whole Personal portfolio I wrote down the proces and rebuild it six times. Now I understand the Django principles a lot better.
With the help of the provided files (css, home.html, base.html, detail.html and all_blog.html) I managed to create a nice site according to my needs.

This is really a great course to learn the basic foundations of how Django works by working on three projects that start simple and increase their difficulty with the last project. Plenty of occasions to do-it-yourself to get a better grasp of the matter. Start from this course, and you will have the necessary tools to understand more complex Django courses or even start doing your own projects. The teacher is really thorough and exhaustive. Excellent job!

At Lecture 26, the procedure didn't work, so I watched a youtube video and learned how to use terminal commands better. Then I was able to continue with Lecture 26. I made a django website using knowledge from this course. It took less coding than a PHP website, but it costs more to host a Django website.

Absolutely fantastic course to get kicked off in the Django world and would definitely recommend it to beginners. I learnt a lot from this course. Thank you so much Nick, I'm 100% satisfied with the course!

By Akash Guha on 9/13/2020

Nick, is really a great instructor. It was totally awesome when he himself debugs the mistakes made, and that makes this course productive and interactive. The small challenges given by him are totally worthy to learn.

I was a beginner and i this was a great course to start with...Nick is awesome with good teaching skills.

By Sidharth b on 8/23/2020

The course is fine. Sometimes rushed up. Only for beginners as projects are not really good enough to share in portfolio. The final project has been done in haste.

By Harry Sandhanwalia on 9/5/2020

Hands down an amazing course for any level of coder. I was able to use the three projects to learn django (from scratch) and use to it produce a functional project with multiple web apps. Nicks teaching style is very calm & detailed, and there is hardly a question left to google (or stack-overflow) going through the content of this course. Go check out his website as well; I LOVED the open-pricing model for membership and the intricate level of transparency in financials. Bottom Line: if you are getting into web app dev, this course + other resources Nick will expose you to (Git, PythonAnywhere, etc) will do an amazing job in getting you off the ground and in production.
