Course Description

We have a new class! Search "iOS 9 Adventure" for the most up-to-date material.
Or you can scroll down to the very bottom of this page, and find my iOS 9 class in More From Nick Walter.
This is the class I wish I had when I was trying to learn iOS development. I have a unique perspective to teach this class because I've been the newb that couldn't understand tutorials or blog posts. No prior programming experience is required. I will walk you through everything you need to start making apps. Getting Xcode (the program we use to make apps) setup and on your machine, making a developer account with Apple, and running the iPhone and iPad simulator on your mac. I firmly believe that the best way to learn is by doing. So we'll make a series of 8 killer apps, each app going into depth on teaching the most important iOS app development skills. Here is an overview of the apps we'll be making: Apps that... ...
record audio with the microphone ...
use the front and rear cameras on iOS devices ...
leverage game principles (FLAPPY BIRD clone)...
connect with Twitter ...
use GPS information ...
connect with PARSE to make a social network ...
use Bluetooth...
and more Once each of these apps are built, I'll teach you everything you need to know to submit these apps to the App Store. We'll also cover how to make money in iOS, and how you can continue to stay in the loop as an iOS developer and keep up with the latest and greatest. These topics could be a whole class in and of itself! What makes me the right teacher?
I have 9 iOS apps in the App Store which total over 300,000+ downloadsI teach more than 17,000 other students in my conglomerate of highly rated Udemy coursesI use an energetic and engaging course style that involves students. Hi! I'm Nick, and I love to code.About five years ago I decided that I wanted to learn to code, but I had limited access to programming resources, and I was getting frustrated with all of the YouTube videos and online tutorials out there. I experimented, struggled, and definitely failed a lot, but I finally got the hang of it, so I decided that I wanted to change the way that people learned to code, and I started teaching. My experience as an online student has directly influenced my teaching style, because I know what it is like to be in your shoes.
When Apple announced their new programming language, Swift, in 2014, I made my big online teachingdebutandcreated the internet's first Swift course.Since that time, I have become a full-time online instructor and I now have courses not only in Swift, but also in iOS, Android,Django, Kotlin, Python, HTML, Blockchain, etc.I have also created five iOSapps from scratch that are currently live in the App Store and arebeing used by thousands of users worldwide.

I love sharing my excitement for coding with my students, and I try to make learning as fun and as easy as possible. Thanks for being part of mycoding community!

Very good course. Got well into development. Hits the surface on every spot but also goes deep enough on various topics to build production ready apps. The course helps to accomplish the technical tasks of app development. UI and UX basics are not taught and must be learned in other courses.
To get first impressions on how to build apps , this is the best place to start.

Have you ever wished to have a neighbour or a friend that would know how to create apps and could teach you right away? Nick is this guy! 2 month ago I knew nothing about how it all works. Programming, xCode, Apple developper account, distribution, Today I have my first app in the app store!!! Accepted by Apple on first submission! ( https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/lucky-draw-tool-draw-numbers/id1063332030?mt=8 ) Yes Nick! I did celebrate and even did some dynamic shuffling dancing alone in my home when I received Apples email! Girls and Guys, Take this course! It is clear, comprehensive, engaging and if creating apps is like going on a journey into space, Nick brings you way up next to the moon. After that, you will still have to keep on developing your knowledge (programming, frameworks, design) in multiple aspect but things will seem clearer and you will be able to target the stars! Thanks Nick.

This class is great because the instructor understands the pain points of learning how to use Xcode, the Storyboard, iOS Simulator, Core Data and Swift. I really like the fact that the instructor took his time to explain concepts in a very detailed way. It was great to see him progress from a sketch of screens to the Storyboard to creating a View Controller to linking IBOutlets and actions to seeing things work in the iOS Simulator. The lecture on submitting your app to the Apple Store is invaluable. It would be helpful if you had a lecture on Core Data and how to use relationships between entities. It would also be great if the instructor would create an intermediate or advanced class that includes building apps.
Thank you!!!

I was pleased to take this course as it was my first step into the area of App development for iOS. Coming from a decade of PHP development I already had a good level of building web apps and it was good to see that the principles were the same. Rick/Nick does a great job of teaching you the basics of strings, variable usage etc before proceeding onto "Real World Apps". This was the area I found a little lacking. The course would start out with a sketched drawing of a proposed app before heading into the build. This is the best way to do this however and I commend Rick/Nick for teaching anyone this. What you end up with at the end of each section is a simplified minimum version of the intended app as the course instructor once again removes these for simplicity. Also when building certain functionality you are taught the bad way of doing things, again for simplicity. Best practices are thrown out of the window in certain elements which would break the user experience and impede any sales you are forecasting for you app. Overall I would say this is a good course to start out with and would watch the basics again should I need a refresher. You should take this course if you are looking to get started in app development as Rick/Nick teaches in a friendly way that won't bore a novice coder. I have given it three stars as the course construction is good, the learning methods are good, just the content you end up with isn't app store ready.

Before taking this course, I literally knew nothing about programming. But I had an idea for an app and wanted to take on the challenge of learning the language and making the app myself. This course makes learning Xcode, swift, and all the functionality approachable and understandable, with clear and useful examples. 6 months (and a few hundred hours of practice) after enrolling, I got the approval from Apple for my first app. It's cliche, but it's true, I could not have gotten this far without Nick and his course. Great class

I've been trying to create a small yet useful app through many courses and tutorials websites, yet I can tell that this one was the most important to the point one. The instructor is awesome and loves what he does. He explained and went through extremely complex concepts thoroughly and made it easy to understand. With 80% of what I learned in this course I was able to submit my dream app to the app store and it was just approved today. The course has extremely important concepts and is worth every penny. Nick, keep up the good work!

I started this course because I had to build an IOS app and never cared about these apps, so I knew nothing about them. Rick did a great job keeping me interested (and that's hard with my limited attention span)
I completed the course roughly a week ago and already have my first 15 page app running and interfacing with my own PHP api's. Keep up the good work, Rick!

thanks Nick who knows how to explain single bits of code. very easy to follow. well explained. instructor like you is very hard to find. you deserve more than 5 stars.. if i can give you 10 even 100 stars. after your course, i fully understand how swift works. all i left is memorising the commonly used codes. because i know how they work. Nick knows how and what to teach

I struggled to get into development before but Nick's style was perfect for me as a complete newbie to coding! SWIFT is the future!

This course covers things not covered in other Udemy courses that purport to be able to teach you iOS development in 12 easy steps (And don't). Nick integrates the camera and microphone into his apps which is invaluable if you want to make an app of any complexity. I have tried the other popular iOS course and Nick's leaves that one in the dust! His teaching style is second to none, assuming no prior programming experience and explains WHY Xcode and Swift behave as they do. I'll be releasing my first iPhone app in a few weeks' time and I owe all of my progress to this course. I cannot speak highly enough about this course and would enthusiastically encourage anyone who wants to learn how to make iPhone and iPad apps to get this course!
