Course Description

Volumetric drawing is an essential figure drawing skill that brings a dramatic sense of 3-Dimensionality to drawings. It does this by emphasizing the fundamental volumes of the figure. This technique has been relied upon for centuries and is still used by master artists and creative professionals today.
In this course well be using a vocabulary of basic volumes: the sphere, the cylinder, and the cube. If youre enrolled in this course you should already be comfortable drawing these volumes at various proportions and various orientations in space. Well be combining these basic volumes to create the more complex forms of the figure.
In this course were going to focus primary on geometric drawings of the figure. These geometric drawings are a powerful tool that will ensure that you see and draw the figure as a dynamic 3-dimensional object moving through space. Once youve learned how to draw the body geometrically, youll learn how to incorporate a dramatic sense of volume into realistic drawings by using dynamic mark making and descriptive contours.
To help you understand the volumes of the body, this course includes some unique projects. Youll be led step by step through the process of creating anatomical models of some of the more challenging volumes of the body including the head and the rib cage. You can use these models as drawing and anatomical aids so you always have help understanding how these forms of the body operate in perspective.
This course includes numerous timed practice poses as well as downloadable still images of fully nude figure drawing models.
Because this course features photographs of fully nude models, it is important that you conduct yourself maturely and appropriately in the course.
This is an intermediate figure drawing course. It is highly recommended that you complete my Gesture course before taking this course.

Hi, this instructor is experienced and explains the fundamentals with excellence. Ive taken a number of his courses and they have given my the means to improve my skills to the point of having fun instead of struggling. I draw all the time now. Thank you for putting these courses together for us.

I've bought all courses from The Art & Science of Drawing series and I have to say that Brent did a very great job teaching these courses. The process of learning is very enjoyable and I'm very satisfied with the drawing skills that I learned. Thank you for this, Brent!

Brent es un excelente instructor, su dominio y conocimiento del dibujo es notable, pero ademas sabe transmitir sus conocimiento de una manera ordenada , muy didctico, he aprendido mucho, he tomado varios de sus cursos, totalmente recomendable.

I think that Brent is the best art teacher in Udemy. So it is a really good choice to pick up any of his courses. With that said...I would have liked it more if we had seen how to properly do the elbows and knees. For the hands and the feet it would have been nice if there was a little bit more of examples.
Anyway I recommend this course over all the courses that Udemy has to offer.

I really enjoyed this course! I have taken many drawing courses in the past and I have to say this probably of one the best so far. Many courses have a failed system of doing practice, resulting in less good results after completing the course. I had a mediocre/decent knowledge about figure drawing. However I noticed drastic improvements after completing this course. I don't quite understand every little taught here since unlike a lot of courses, it had no fillers and large amounts of information. I only took this course so far from this instructor, but no I'm heavily considering getting other of his courses. I had an idea about gesture drawing but him mentioning made me confused, despite spending so much time on different instructors! This man really knows his stuff and now I think its worth to give a try on his other courses. Despite being this early in my artistic journey, I had already jumped so far. THANK YOU SO MUCH BRENT!!!

A great teacher. A clear and precise teaching style. I can see much improvement in my figure drawing skills sense completing the gesture then the volume courses, Thank you Brent

The course is very well laid out, clearly presented and built in such a way that no single step is overwhelming, but every step takes you that much closer to being able to draw the figure. In essence, Brent demystifies the process by giving you a way to see, a way to approach figure drawing that you can apply to your own ultimate style.

Excelente curso, realmente me ayudo a entender el volumen de la figura ms de lo que esperaba :-D

Had a better time with this than the Gesture course (my mind can grasp the concept of volume more easily than 2D shape for some reason). Very straightforward with approachable practice material

I do not know how Brent is doing it but he can explain the most complex things in a way that is easy to understand and apply! Brent definitely has a superpower of a perfect teacher. He always encourages his students and he loves what he does. Another amazing course. Thank you, Brent.

I had taken the previous course in this series (gesture) and that completely changed the way I draw. From there, I'd been practicing on my own using reference photographs until I felt like I reached a number of knowledge gaps that I could no longer ignore and had to get more guidance. I had no idea Brent had this follow-up course on volumes, and I found out about it at the perfect time! This course was, once again, a breakthrough in my journey. Brent is an excellent teacher and I love his teaching method. It works, and it works fast. I got the tools, now it's up to me to keep practicing. I'm looking forward to comparing my drawings from a few months ago to one in a couple of weeks, for I've felt significant improvement and I thank you Brent for that. They say when the student is ready, the teacher appears... Yes! And that's the teacher guys! Thank you!
