Course Description

If you ever wondered how to create savegames in unity then this course is for you!
The "The ultimate Guide to Creating Savegames in Unity" will teach you best practices for the most basic savegame-solutions like PlayerPrefs, but we will also handle some more advanced topics like Json and Encryption.

In this course you will:
  • Save and load the Gamestate
  • Save/Load simple Data with Playerprefs
  • Create your own Save-Files with Streamwriter
  • Create unreadable Savegames with Binaryformatter
  • Create advanced up- and downward-compatible Savegame-Solutions with Json

This course is very project-based and practical, so you will implement the concepts directly in exercises.
For each Concept you will be challenged to implement it yourself, but if you don't feel up to the task you will also be shown a well explained step-by-step guide how to implement it.

The course also features several Demo-Projects, where you can look up best practice implementations.

Why learn from me?
I have been teaching game-programming for more than 5 years now and as a result I have plenty of experience in what works and what doesn't when it comes to teaching programming. Also I am a firm believer, that you can only learn the high craft (some might even say art) of programming, by practicing it.

  • Unity Developers who want to create Simple Savegames
  • Unity Developers who want to create more sophisticated encrypted Savegames

This is one of the only courses on Udemy that covers Saveing data in unity, and I can honestly say it has been extremely useful!

Very good - would have been nice to have one more topic covering a more complex scenario such as what do with objects created at run time, or other object references (especially in the context of the save game manager).

I took this course to get in touch with JSON so the first (quite long) section was not really interesting for me. And it contained stuff like "How to NOT handle Savegames". So it could be quite shorter. The JSON Part however was quite informative and helpful. Especially with the encryption section and so I really learned something new in this part.Sadly this ain't a project-structured course and so I found myself commenting out lines of code, just to replace it... this became quite messy over time. In the last section Andreas showed a Unity Scene wich isn't available in the course materials. (Or I'm too dumb to find in the new Udemy Layout.) But that's a minor thing.Andreas is really entertaining and THANKS GOD with no German Hardcore Accent like some other instructors here. The pacing is good, it could be structured a bit better but after all, I've got a good takeaway from it.

Everything is very basic. The lessons up to here could have been done within some slides as well. Not bad for absolute beginners though, it just progresses very slowly.

Great course full of useful info! The topic isn't the most exciting part of game development but the instructor did a good job presenting several of the options for creating persistent game states in an interesting and engaging manner. Hope to see more courses from Andreas in the future.
