Frequently asked questions
What CourseDuck is, how the rankings and reviews work, how the site pays for itself, and how to get in touch.
What is CourseDuck?
A directory of online courses. We list more than 28,800 courses from 168 providers side by side, with the price, length, difficulty, rating and student reviews for each one, sorted into 147 topics. The idea is that you compare courses in one place instead of opening ten tabs.
How do you rank courses?
Each topic page is a ranked list. The default order, "Editors rating", is set by our editors from the student data we hold on every course: the average rating, how many students rated it and whether the course is still being maintained. Courses we add join the end of a list until an editor has looked at them, and you can re-sort any list by most reviews, student rating or most recent. Our editors read the reviews and the syllabus of the courses at the top of each list and write the "Our take" you see on those pages. Because so many good courses are paid, every topic's top five also makes room for one free course, as long as it has real reviews behind it. Nothing else moves a course up or down: no course pays to be ranked, featured or reviewed, and a course cannot pay to have a negative review removed. More on how we work.
Where do the reviews come from?
Two places. Most of the 1.3 million reviews on the site were written by students on the course provider's own review pages and are shown here with the reviewer's first name, rating and date. The rest were written on CourseDuck by members who took the course. Both kinds have to follow our code of conduct: review a course you actually took, keep it about the course, no paid or provider-written reviews.
How does CourseDuck make money?
Through affiliate links. When you click "Visit course" on a Udemy course, and on some other providers, the link carries our partner code; if you enrol, the provider pays us a commission. You pay the same price as if you had gone there directly, and where a provider is running a promotion the link takes you to the discounted price. These links are marked as sponsored in the page code. Affiliate income has no effect on how courses are ranked or which reviews appear, and we list free courses and courses from providers that pay us nothing on the same terms. Our gift guide uses Amazon affiliate links in the same way.
Are the prices on course pages current?
Provider prices change often; Udemy in particular runs promotions most weeks. The price on a course page is the list price we last collected from the provider. When our stored price is known to be out of date the page says "See price on Udemy" instead of showing a number, and in every case the price you pay is the one shown on the provider's checkout page. Free courses are marked Free, and each topic page has a Free filter; there are 2,500 free courses on the site.
How current are the ratings, review counts and "Last updated" dates?
"Last updated" on a course page is the date the instructor last changed the course content, as reported by the provider. Ratings and review counts are refreshed by our crawler in batches, most recently for the 26,900 Udemy courses in October 2026. Each topic page shows an Updated date under its title: the most recent content update among the courses on that list.
A course I took is not listed. Can you add it?
Probably. We add courses continuously and prioritise courses that already have student reviews, because a listing with no reviews does not help anyone decide. Send the link to mkuhlman12@gmail.com.
How do I write a review?
Go to Write a review, search for the course, rate it and write about your experience: what level you started at, what you got out of it, what you would change. You need a free account so that a review can be traced to one person. The star rating should match what you wrote.
I am an instructor. Can I correct my page or add my courses?
Yes. Instructor pages are built from the data the provider publishes about you, so the name, photo and course list follow what is on the provider's site. If something is wrong or missing, email mkuhlman12@gmail.com from an address we can match to your instructor profile and we will fix it. We do not accept payment to change a ranking, and we do not remove reviews because an instructor disagrees with them.
Can you remove a review?
We remove reviews that break the code of conduct: spam, reviews of courses the writer did not take, personal attacks, reviews written or paid for by the provider. We do not remove a review for being negative. To report one, email mkuhlman12@gmail.com with the link and a line on what is wrong with it.
How do I contact you?
Email mkuhlman12@gmail.com or use the contact page. We usually answer within a day.
