I'm a full time Senior Software Developer.
My bread and butter is Ruby on Rails, Javascript with jQuery, CSS, and HTML. I also have experience with php, C, and Python.

I've mostly worked at smaller startups both in New York City and San Francisco throughout my career, but have a taste of big companies from working for a consulting shop.
I've always written a lot of open source software as a way to both build my skills and give back to the community.
I'm very interested in real estate investing and option trading.

As hobbies, I like to play violin and learn new languages.
I'm excited to teach on Udemy because I think teaching is the ultimate way to reinforce skills. I also love the subject matter that I'm teaching.

I very much enjoyed this course. The instructor kept me interested and engaged.

Awesome Course. Would definitely recommend it :D

good for beginners, but the content seems generic, nothing speciel than other tutorials found online

The step by step instruction is great. I am totally new to this so I appreciate the hand-holding through each step.

Good quality content so far.

This was a great course!

As I’ve done some programming in the past, some of the concepts around basic numbers and strings were too simple. But I did appreciate the “gotchas” that the instructor mentioned.

Overall, I think the instructor covered all of the important concepts in regards to getting started in Ruby.

I especially liked the treatment of recursion vs iteration and the object oriented examples.

Most OOP examples that you see out there are very simple (like Dog < Animal) and I was happy that there was a real world example of OOP in this course.

I found the shell helper commands not really relevant to Ruby, but definitely helpful and worth the price of the course.

It was clear and very detailed. It was helpful in understanding Ruby on Rails for a beginner and made me interested in learning more and develop my skills.

As someone familiar with python this course has been a great way for me to get up to speed with ruby!

Course starts out OK, but really loses its focus about halfway through. The examples are really generic and don't really build on each other. The instructor will bring up some new concepts and just gloss over them without explanation. There are better courses on Ruby out there.

Also the title is a bit misleading in that this is really just for learning basic Ruby. It doesn't have anything to do with web-development.

The courses is really great. So far so good. Clear voice very comprehensive course. Great information passionately presented. Really informative course. Gives me the information I need. Easy to follow Step by step explanation.

This course is completely cool, well packaged.

I knew a bit of Python already when I did this course, but was looking around for an alternative scripting language on my Linux system as Python frustrates me with all its breakages of old code on updates, and changes to the 'correct' way to do something.

I did this course quite a while ago, was disappointed after initially finding it promising and enjoying the tutor's laidback delivery. I gave it 3.5 stars, and forgot about it. I just came back now to see if it had been updated or improved, to give it another chance. Seemingly not.

I read the most recent review by Matthew Downs and it was spot on. The course starts well then loses focus and has no web angle. I also thought it needed real-world examples, not so abstract.

The bottom line is: did I become a Ruby programmer (even as a hobbyist at home) after doing this course. Sadly, no. That's a shame as the tutor knows his stuff and is engaging and would be capable of creating a truly useful course that teaches real-world practical knowledge.
