Requirements:
- Cinema 4D R20 (or higher)
- Octane Render

In this course I will show you how to easily create a match using VDB Modeling. Then we will transform it into a burnt match with the help of vertex maps, deformer and fields. We will also create and integrate some Octane materials.

We will take care of the following material contents:
-Creating the Matschstick Model with VDB Modelling
-Setting up the Camera and lights
- Creating Our Materials and Combinie them With A Vertex Map
-Creating The Transition using a Vertex Map, Fields and Deformer

Good:

1. The tutor talks us through the tutorial at a fairly fast pace, which is appreciated. No off-topic rants.

2. He uses some intermediate-to-advanced Cinema 4D methods, so not just a 'basic' beginner tutorial. This is good for the intermediate C4D user.

3. The tutor is easy to understand and follow along.

4. Fields are discussed and used (available as of Cinema 4D 20), so you need to have at least an intermediate understanding of Cinema 4D R20 before viewing this tutorial. It is good that he teaches some of the newer features in Cinema 4D.

Needs improvement:

1. The description requirements mention Cinema 4D and Octane Render. They should also mention TurbulenceFD, because it is needed to create the fire effect. He does mention TurbulenceFD under 'We will take care of the following material contents' but really it should be listed as a requirement. TurbulenceFD is a paid, 3rd-party plug-in for Cinema 4D (just as is Octane Render).

2. Speaking of TurbulenceFD, the tutor states he cannot show us how he created the fire effect because he only uses TurbulenceFD on his workstation computer (not his tutorial computer). He tells us to watch another person's YouTube video about TurbulenceFD, and he gives us some (brief) tips about the use of TurbulenceFD in this scene. We never see him create the fire effect. But the fire effect is a major part of the scene and so his inability to use TurubulenceFD in this tutorial is not excusable. How about filming the use of TurbulenceFD on your workstation using your cell phone video capabilities (ie: just set up your cell phone to externally record the screen and audio while you are using TurbulenceFD on the workstation). Then import that video into the tutorial. I know this is not the best solution, but it would be better than what we have now- which is no tutorial on TurbulenceFD at all.

3. The tutorial is less than one hour long (around 45 minutes or so). I understand this is his first tutorial, but I hope that his future tutorials are at least twice as long, if not longer. Being so short, it feels like a quick tip video at times. I think the tutor has a good teaching style, and I like his Cinema 4D methods. So, I would appreciate longer, more in-depth tutorials from him.

4. In future tutorials, it would be great to have the tutor explain WHY he is suggesting specific methods during modeling. He is very good at directing us with steps (ie: set this parameter to 200; now move this deformer up 20 on the Y axis; etc). This makes it so that anyone with at least an intermediate knowledge of Cinema 4D should be able to follow along step-by-step without problems. But I did wish that he had gone into more detail on why we should do certain steps. In other words, explain some of the C4D theory behind his choice of steps. For instance, why are we turning the initial matchstick model into a VDB, instead of just using continuing with a traditional polygon model? What is it about the VDB process that makes the scene easier to create?
