Professional Ruby on Rails Developer with Rails 5 (Udemy.com)

I have been developing/maintaining an application in RoR for a couple of years now, but I was not a Ruby developer to being with and I picked up by looking at the earlier code that someone had started writing and of course google. Also, that was on Rails 4 and now I have upgraded the application to Rails 5, so I felt like taking this course. Many of the things were already known to me, so I fast forwarded some of the lectures, but I did pick up on some new things such as chat room with action cable and I am going to try it out in my application.

Very well done, if u want to get basic knowledge about rails, connecting models with each other - 1:M, M:M, how to use rails console, rails views with .erb, ez heroku deploy then take it ;) Why 4.5? Main reason is lack of enough explanation about some rails magic - not bad, could be much better then it would be probably awesome! If u r new to Rails but with some coding experience, then it's perfect. If u have no previous exp with programming then grab some basic programming lessons: html, css, ruby, and then rails ;) Well spent 10$ :D I've learnt a lot about "Rails style" ;) Thanks Mashrur and keep going

This is a great course to take to get started with Rails. The instructor teaches the course very well and gives great examples. Course also teaches you how to add features so that when you are writing your app you can create your features. I would rate this course as a 5 star except i believe it is missing one thing. How to undo things in Rails. Technology is about automating and we can press ctrl z to undo code but programmers make mistakes. This course needs a section or video explaining how to undo things in rails.

I like the idea of leaving your mistakes in your videos and fixing them as you go. It is great for a beginner programmer to see. However it can be distracting for an experienced programmer that is picking up new skills. Other than that, I am loving the course. Everything is laid out in a very simplistic and easy-to-digest format. You always explain the why behind everything we do, which is important for a deeper understanding for any language for framework. I will be recommending this course to anyone who is looking to learn Ruby on Rails.

This course was a great learning experience. The instructor, Mashrur, is energetic and engaging, and is very helpful with solving students' problems in the Q & A pages. In some cases the code could have been explained more thoroughly, but overall the course is offers excellent educational value.

I've been "teaching" myself code for the past 4 years or so. What makes Udemy different from other online learning sites is: (1) the course is up to date - On other sites, I've had to stop a tutorial 1/2 way through because the code within it wasn't current / compatible with current browsers / software. (2) if you have a question, you receive a response very quickly - The most I had to wait was 2 days but most of the time I received an answer next day... mostly from the instructor himself. Thank Mashrur! (3) each vides has an outline of information and code covered within that section - If you ever need to refer back, you can review the outline instead of having to rewind / fast forward the video. Highly recommended.

Mashrur is very knowledgeable; I learned a lot from his course. My only real criticism with the course was that towards the end, when developing the ChefChat feature and faced with a nagging issue with scrolling in the chat window , Mashrur purposely left the issue unresolved, suggesting that student could work out the solution on their own if they wanted to pursue it. For advanced students that may have been okay but for beginners this was not very fair to leave them hanging like that. It left things feeling unfinished. Also, I do not quite understand what Rob Percival had to do with this course ; his name was all over it along with Mashrur's but there was zero contribution from Rob in this course from what I could see. Mashrur's teaching and presentation was more than capable and I didn't care anymore by course end that Rob hadn't appeared in the course. But, still, it was Rob's name that drew me to this course, not Mashrur's.

Excellent course, starts off with the basics and builds on them systematically to reinforce the core concepts at each stage. The best part about the course is that it introduces test driven development (TDD) into your work so you learn to use tests correctly to write robust code and develop a true, production ready app. Really enjoyed the fact the course teaches you how to set up your development environment in Cloud9, use Git to manage your code, and how to deploy your app to production using Heroku, all very important aspects of the Rails development workflow.

Just over a month ago I had no idea how make a web app. My knowledge was basic, I knew how to use Wordpress. After completing this course I have created my first production ready app deployed thru Heroku and using AWS for image hosting. The course is fantastic and the instructor explains the concepts and shows you step by step how to do things. I would recommend anyone who wants to learn Ruby on Rails to invest in this course. This course is the beginning of me developing new skills in Ruby on Rails. I want to personally thank Mashrur for being my instructor and helping me out along the way when I was stuck. The instructor does a good job of answering questions in the Q & A and providing prompt feedback. He provides a lot of valuable information and guides students to great online resources. The lecture notes provided after most of the videos is a great idea. They definitely help me understand the course content better. However, when evaluating the course and the instruction from a pedagogical perspective, I have to question the instructor's knowledge of teaching methodology and understanding of teaching and learning (from a purely academic perspective). My main criticism would be, there's a little too much of typing code while reading the code, which is not effective teaching. Students need more explanation of code and syntax, as well as the logic behind the problem-solving. I am enjoying the course and the instructor, but I am hoping future editions of the course will provide some improvements in instructional methodology and how the instructor assesses students.
