Maximilian Schwarzmüller's ES6 course is a short one: about 6 hours across 115 lectures and 12 sections. It covers let and const, rest and spread, modules and classes, symbols, iterators and generators, Promises, Maps and Sets, Reflect and Proxy, then a closing project. It is aimed at people who already write ES5 and want the newer features in one place. The syllabus lists no quizzes or coding exercises, so this is watch-and-follow-along. About 35,000 students have enrolled.

Reviewers like Max's clear, upbeat teaching and the way examples set ES5 beside ES6. Of 6,221 ratings, 4,029 are five stars and 1,793 are four. The complaints are consistent. The project is simple and built by the instructor, there are no challenges to practice on, and the cheat sheets are thin, with one reviewer finding broken links. Symbols and generators could use more real-world examples. One newcomer got lost at Reflect and Proxy, and an older review flags an outdated XMLHttpRequest video.

The course was last updated in November 2022. That matters less here because ES6 itself is settled, but the syllabus stops at ES6, so later additions are not covered. It makes a good quick refresher for anyone with an ES5 background. Plan to find practice problems elsewhere, since the course gives very little of that.

Starting out at the age of 12 I never stopped learning new programming skills and languages. Early I started creating websites for friends and just for fun as well. Besides web development I also explored Python and other non-web-only languages. This passion has since lasted and lead to my decision of working as a freelance web developer and consultant. The success and fun I have in this job is immense and really keeps that passion burningly alive.

Starting web development on the backend (PHP with Laravel, NodeJS, Python) I also became more and more of a frontend developer using modern frameworks like React, Angular or VueJS in a lot of projects. I love both worlds nowadays!

I also build full-stack applications and acquired expert DevOps and cloud computing knowledge - proven by the many AWS certifications I hold (incl. the top-level Solutions Architect Professional certification).

As a self-taught developer I had the chance to broaden my horizon by studying Business Administration where I hold a Master's degree. That enabled me to work in a major strategy consultancy as well as a bank. While learning, that I enjoy development more than these fields, the time in this sector greatly improved my overall experience and skills.

Very clear explanations with examples. However, the part about Symbols was a bit unclear and needs more examples that relate to real-world scenerios. For the Iterations & Generators section, Iterator explanations are quite clear, but for generators, again, the lesson could use some real-world examples.

It gives you a good notion of what new things were introduced in ES6 but it's missing some challenges to practice what you learn. Also, by the end, it should give more practical examples or a final project describing what the user should do, this to put all the knowledge from the course into practice and not just see some project done by the instructor.

As always, a great course from Max. His courses always explain concepts clearly while showing his excitement and enthusiasm for the technologies he is teaching about. ES6 is definitely an incredible and evolving technology and the way Max teaches makes it much more enjoyable to learn.
