Course Description

Adobe InDesign is the industry-standard software for producing print publications: books, magazines, brochures, flyers, posters, business cards, documents and even product packaging. You name it, InDesign is always the first and best choice for designers when they want to produce professional-standard design work for print.
This course, aimed at complete beginners to InDesign, will lead you through the process of creating, formatting, proofing, preparing and exporting InDesign documents, ready for sending them straight to the printers. Over 10 concise and structured sessions, and 35 lectures, we'll cover the basics of setting up professional print layouts and working with images, typography, color and effects to create your desired result. We'll also take a look at how features like Masters, Book Files and proofing with Preflight can speed up your workflow and transform you into an InDesign Pro!
To help you along, you'll receive a course handbook, 10 Essential InDesign Skills, which is yours to keep after you've completed the course. You'll also work towards creating your own magazine layout in InDesign and receive pre-prepared, complete magazine templates for you to refer to and use throughout and beyond the course lessons.
You might be embarking on a new career in graphic design and want to develop a foundation of knowledge in print design. Or perhaps you want to grow your confidence in using InDesign on a practical basis when you encounter it in your work (e.g. if you work in Marketing, Publishing, PR, or if you run your own business). You may have a little bit of experience of using the software, or you may be a complete beginner. If you fit any of these criteria, the Become an InDesign Pro in 10 Skills course will be a perfect fit for you!Who this course is for:
  • Suitable for beginners to Adobe InDesign, or for individuals who have encountered the software and are looking to formalise their knowledge of preparing documents for print.
  • Perfect for individuals who often encounter InDesign in their daily work, but do not necessarily need to have an in-depth knowledge of the software, or of graphic design.; e.g. individuals working in Marketing, Advertising, Publishing, Printing, Retail etc.
  • Also suitable for designers looking to gain more confidence with using Adobe InDesign and creating beautifully designed and technically flawless print layouts
  • This course is concise and aims to equip you with the skills to feel confident using InDesign from start to finish. Professional tips and tricks are shared; but this course is not really aimed at Advanced users of Adobe InDesign.

Hi there! My name is Grace; I'm a UK-based graphic designer specialising in publishing and print design, and have been working in the design industry since 2007. I also love to share my knowledge and skills through teaching, and am a qualified Adobe InDesign instructor, through e-learning company InDesignSkills. As a self-taught designer, who later gained formal qualifications in graphic design, I can sympathise with the lack of accessible online resources for beginners looking to learn about the principles of print design and get to grips with using Adobe InDesign. I aim to provide courses that are accessible, fun and goal-driven; and aim to equip you with fundamental skills as quickly as possible.

Yes, it was a good match for the most part. I've figured out most of the basics. I was hoping for more details, the page numbers and masters is more of what I wanted. The first portion of the course was too basic for my needs but she is an lovely instructor!
The content is great, I really appreciate the handout as well.

This was a great beginner course. While I am not a beginner I am self-taught and this course taught me some things that I wasn't aware of. This education filled in some blanks for me.

While much of this information is more rudimentary than my current skill level, I'm still finding nuggets in each section to improve my workflow and output.

The class was very informative. The instructor is very thorough and her suggestion of working interactively in Indesign to have hands on experience while learning is very useful and helpful. The sessions were very user friendly. My only disappointment is that none of the zip files, samples or the certificate at the end were accessible. Instructions should have been given at the end of how to download that application. The course says just click on the resources, but that does not work. Other than that, I was impressed with the course and the way it was laid out.

So far so good. Using CC so format comes up differently sometimes, which causes a little stop and 'what!'

I'm a Bid Manager who always had Graphic Designers on hand to set copy for me. Our team is downsizing so i need to sharpen up and use ID myself to set my own documents.
The course was great, not over-technical and daunting, but detailed enough to help me feel confident in setting simple docs.

This instructor is articulate, organized, very focused, and doesn't ramble! Easy to follow! Thank you! :)

il let you know at the end of course!

More for beginners than people who have had any experience whatsoever.

Maybe too basic. I used QuarkXpress for 10 years as the Art Director for a national magazine, and never really transitioned over. I HAVE to switch.
