Course Description

Adobe revolutionized the publishing world when it introduced InDesign over a decade ago, and InDesign is now the publishing industry standard. However, its power isn't limited to producing print and digital magazines. It can be used to create virtually any type of material, such as collateral and packaging. With the release of Creative Suite 5.5, InDesign gained digital publishing capabilities built right in, for easier publication on tablets like the Apple iPad, and the Samsung Galaxy and other Android-based devices. Learning InDesign is not optional. For the past several years, every working print designer has been expected to learn InDesign. With the explosion of digital publishing, mastering InDesign is even more critical. This InDesign course for beginners will get you up and running, and give you a solid foundation upon which to build your skills. Once you're done, you'll be able to build layouts that contain graphics and large amounts of text that flows between multiple pages. Lectures are shown in CS 5.5, but everything covered works in even the most current version of the software, which is InDesign CC (Creative Cloud).

I'm Joseph Caserto, a design professional, educator, and consultant. I have over 25 years of experience as a publication art director and designer, and worked on the staffs of several national magazines before starting my own business. Since then, I've worked with many publications, including BusinessWeek, Marie Claire, PC, TV Guide, and Vibe. My projects have included helping to produce several issues of the iPad edition of Fortune, and consulting on the launch of Parents for iOS (Apple iPad) and Android (Samsung Galaxy).
I'm also an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Digital Communications and Media, at New York University, School of Professional Studies, and an Adjunct Instructor at Pace University in the Masters in Publishing program. I've consulted with clients including FP Design, The Archdiocese of New York, and The Uniformed Firefighters Association of Greater New York to help them learn and maximize the potential of their software, and to explore graphic design principals.
I earned a BFA, with Honors, in Graphic Design from Pratt Institute, where I completed one of the first classes that explored graphic design produced with a Macintosh. I'm a

Easy to follow for a beginner like me.

By Dweebcentric

The course certainly provides a comprehensive overview of common taks in InDesign. This is definitely a beginner's course, but the material is well-organized and presented is very digestible chunks.

By Robbi Storms

very informative and easy to follow

By Danjay1983

this is the most boring and unpractical courses of all time! the teacher's microphone must have a serious problem because the background noise of all videos drive me crazy.

I originally thought this course would be project-based. Instead, I am being so disappointed that the teacher spent so much time teaching about each menu's function like a robot.

I want my refund back!

By Julie Bradley

Very good. Only suggestion is sometimes he uses key strokes to do something which I can't follow (I need to see his cursor to follow everything and try it myself on my second monitor). Thx

Instructions are for InDesign of several versions ago. Not everything translates to ID-CC15.

Feel as though its starting from a point that encourages building good habits from the outset ...

Only a few sessions into the course at the moment - but finding it really easy to follow so far! I will update my review as I progress through it.....

By Becki Pope

This is a very thorough and easy to follow course.

Very simple, clear and concise instructions.

By Rosie Glassey

This is very well explained and demonstrated on line - I can work at my own pace and replay anything that doesn't quite make sense the first time.

By Therese Scheidt

Great tips and easy to follow
