Make Your Own Ukulele (Udemy.com)

I decided to watch the course all of the way through, before getting about making myself an Ukulele. My initial thoughts are as follows:
1. Runar does a wonderful job, and he put time into planning this course.
2. He explains things carefully, and, overall, I was left with very little questions.
3. I feel confident that I can now, with care, make a quality instrument.
The next piece of commentary is not a criticism on Runar. Instead, it is simply a comment on the initial investment necessary for this kind of build. If you want to build something comparable to the course, some money, above the cost of materials, will have to be spent. I have a well-outfitted cabinet making shop, and I find myself compiling a shopping list for Luthier-specific tools. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I think It needs to be mentions. The tools I am finding myself planning to buy are as follows:
1. luthier clamps
2. fretting tools
3. a sheet of glass
3.a. A sheet of glass is not 'necessary', but I find it to be truer and flatter than MDF for precision sanding work.

It is my first time taking a course with Udemy. I can't wait to start a project.

This course is excellent. To have the opportunity to learn from a master luthier who also knows how to explain and teach is wonderful. This course is a bargain, and anyone who is going to build ukuleles needs to watch this.

A great course for anyone interested in building their own Soprano Ukelele and watching a master craftsman and Luthier working with wood. The techniques learned are not beyond the realms of the basic Do It Yourself person. Some great advice is given by Runar in using wood and workshop tools and techniques as well as how to manage work in a small workshop. The Videos are clear though some out of focus moments occur occasionally. This does not detract from a brilliant course to help you build your own Ukelele and move onto more ambitious projects if that is your desire. A good touch would have been to hear the finished Ukelele played, to get an idea how the quality of build improves the tone, compared to a basic cheap Ukelele. The satisfaction of building your own instrument must be immense, if done to the same quality demonstrated here by Runar.

I like that he shows how to do this with common tools so most anyone can do it. There is no substitute for being able to see the work being done. Gives confidence that I can do it also. Great thank you for this fantastic class.

This is a great course with easy instructions. Very well explained and it requires virtually no specialty tools (except a routing jig in my case) End product is great and you can feel very proud of the work you did! Thank you Iceland man with a name that has characters I do not know how to make on my keyboard.

Excellent. Very detailed and informative. It's a true step-by-step guide to making a ukelele, and a pretty useful introduction to the basics of luthiery.
