Finding a Teacher who Can REALLY EXPLAIN the Guitar is Rare... This will NOT Disappoint.

Our take
Based on the ratings of 1,226 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in March 2017. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a short, focused blues soloing class from Ian Stich. It runs about 94 minutes across six lectures, and the lessons walk through the first pentatonic form, then the second, then the third, with chord tones worked in. Stich says plainly that it was made for his YouTube subscribers and that his free Blues Primer playlist is a prerequisite. Treat that as a real requirement. It is not a course for someone picking up a guitar for the first time.
Reviewers are warm about the teaching. They describe a laid-back, encouraging, funny teacher who explains why notes work, not just where to put the fingers. One says the charts and backing tracks make practice efficient, and a few have gone through the course two or three times. The complaints are small. One reviewer could not find the PDF charts, and another says he crams a lot into each lesson, so repeat viewings help. Only 40 of 1,226 ratings are three stars or lower.
The lessons were last updated in 2017, though the content is guitar technique rather than software. With 4.8 stars and around 4,000 students, it is well liked. Expect to practice for weeks, since one reviewer spent about four months working through it. We would recommend it if you already like Stich's style from YouTube and want a structured practice plan. If you haven't seen his videos, watch the free primer first.
Pros
- Shows how three pentatonic shapes connect, with chord tones worked into the soloing
- Charts and backing tracks make practice sessions efficient, says one reviewer
- Laid-back, funny teaching that explains why notes work, not just where they sit
- Rated 4.8 from 1,226 reviews, with 982 of them five stars
Cons
- Only about 94 minutes in six lectures, so it is a start, not a full curriculum
- Stich's free YouTube Blues Primer is listed as a prerequisite, so budget time for it
- Last updated in 2017, and one recent reviewer could not find the PDF charts
None of this information is new but it's presented in a simple way and the accompanying charts/backing tracks make practicing efficient.
Listed as intermediate. Fits players who know basic pentatonic boxes and have watched Stich's free primer.

Instruction was succinct and to the point. PDFs matched the videos. I like his laid-back, encouraging style.

Having seen Ian's YT vids I had a good idea what to expect. I found that repeated playing, which can become tedious, actually produced the opposite effect, as he crams a lot into each lesson. It's really worth going back over stuff! By the time I got to the last lesson I was comfortable enough with the teaching to just be able to work with it. Really pleased:-)

This course is a completely different way of learning blues soloing. It explains why things work and how the different pentatonic boxes are tied together. For the first time I understand how intervals impact the "feeling" or sound that I hear from great blues players and how to use them myself. Honestly this course costs half the price of a face to face lesson and it has taught me more than I learned from months of lessons (and immediately forgot). An added bonus is this instructor. He is engaging, humorous, charismatic and easy to understand. I never hesitate to ask for my money back if a course fails to deliver but this one is a keeper. Now...got to go practice!

This course is phenomenal. I've watched StichMethod on Youtube but sometimes feel there is too much information to sift through in order to develop a succinct practice plan. This course was exactly what I needed. None of this information is new but it's presented in a simple way and the accompanying charts/backing tracks make practicing efficient. I've been playing guitar for a year or so and can now comfortably play a blues solo after spending about 4 months to work through this course. Thanks, Stich!

I love Stich method but I have say that this course doesnt offer too many new ideas if youve already studied and applied everything that was covered in the blues primer playlist.

So far, so good! Just starting here after having a huge personal breakthrough using Stitch's Never-Lost Pentatonic ideas on YT. I need to learn the 3 chords presented here for now. Will practice!

I'm 44 and had two guitar teachers when I was a teenager and over the years have watched endless YouTube videos and nothing really clicked for me with theory...until Stitch Method. If I ever finish my album, he will be thanked in the credits. I wish I could go back in time to my youth and understand what I know now.

Stich provides a great structured approach to learning guitar

Exactly what I was looking for. Very Comprehensive
By Chad Hensch on 9/1/2020
Refreshing my memory on the basics. I get lost in the moment when playing, and forget to zone in on the 1, 4, 5 's.
