Excellent course, a very good balance between explanation and exercises with really enjoyable projects to complete. I'd say it might be a little hard to get to grips with for complete beginners, but for those who already have some experience of the graphic tablet and painting software, it's a great course for diversifying your approaches and practices. As a professional in retraining, I loved confronting different approaches and compositions throughout the course. I highly recommend this course for anyone wishing to develop their digital painting style.

I'm a professional artist with a background in photography, marketing, and painting. I took this course to improve my digital drawing skills after a year of trial-and-error-ing it on my own. I finished the entire course. I learned a lot from this course, but I also have some constructive criticism. Pros: Austin is crazy talented. His work is distinct and complex, and I really enjoyed observing his workflow. His color palette choices are beautiful. -Procreate is overwhelming at first, and I finished this course with a much better handle on the software and its capabilities. -The painting exercises were really helpful and digestible. -The most valuable thing I learned from this course was workflow. I have a good sense of how to take a piece from beginning to end now. Cons: -This course is not for beginners. If you don't already know basics of composition, color theory, and drawing, you'll be frustrated. -There were a few things I found distracting. The videos of him in front of the camera are all overexposed (blown highlights) and often the audio doesn't match. He also smacks his lips often and loudly while he's talking. The royalty-free music added to portions of the lessons is AWFUL. -His bias against art styles that he finds "cartoony" really comes through as he teaches some of the art styles. -I would have found it helpful if he provided more information about what makes each drawing style distinct and what subjects fit the vibe of each one. He gave a bit of an overview for the first few art styles, then abandoned that pattern. I found myself looking around online to get a sense of what type of project to prepare for each section. -Almost all of the projects are of creatures without fur. I was hoping to have learned techniques to effectively paint fur, and I finished the course without any. -His advice at the end regarding portfolio-building and marketing is pretty basic. It would have been better for him to direct students to marketing materials and professionals in the space who can provide substantive help. Conclusion: I'm glad I took this course, but I'm also glad I bought it on sale. I expect I'll reference certain clips from time to time, but I also plan to seek out other teachers moving forward. Austin is a great artist, but he has a lot to learn about teaching.

I enrolled this course to learn characteristics of different art styles and how to paint them like they should look. Austin did excellent job and it was really satisfying. It was also very helpful to watch professional's workflow and how they pick/use colors and apply effects using photos. Definitely recommend to the people who wonder why their paintings look flat and lack life, who really wants to solve the problem and improve their skills to the next level.

This teacher can tend to ramble and is better at showing than helping you learn techniques for yourself, but that being said this is a great course. Sticking with him to the end is worth it because he shows you valuable tools that are great for artists who already know the rudiments of art, such as a whole plethora of art styles (inking, painterly, realistic, cut out) and how to get the best out of layers, pattern photos, etc. I would certainly consider recommending this course to an intermediate artist who was interested in getting the best out of their coloring.

Great course, really inspiring and educational! For starters, when i just started this course, i was a really junior artist, maybe even below that, because of my self-educating life in the world of art, it was a hobby more than something i wanted to do for life, but now thanks to Austin i know more about this amazing hobby and i hope in the future it will be my work as a concept artist or something in that area. I deeply recommend this course for the education either you are painting something just for fun, or you want to become someone in the world of art. :D

Great course! I didn't have much experience with drawing before, but this course is a great one to begin with. It is like an introduction into drawing, at first Austin explains the basics, then you can try out different styles. Really liked when he repeated "excellent" while drawing, somehow it made me feel more confident about my own skills. There was only one issue with voice recording, voiceover was a bit late or sth like that, I believe in some lesson about photorealistic painting, but it wasn't a big problem for me to understand what is going on.

This course was so helpful from start to finish. The instructor was supportive, insightful on good and bad habits of artists, and felt like a mentor through the process. I highly recommend this course if you want to start getting your feet wet and be surprised at what you're able to do that you didn't have the confidence before, and be proud of attempting difficult styles and exercises and look back and see how much you grew in the course. Absolutely loved this course and it's definitely accessible at your own pace.

I'm a self-taught artist and have found this course to be an exceptional value. I've taken classes online at a 'professional' school and have found Austins course outshined it in every respect. What I like: -The instructor is clearly knowledgeable and a working professional and it shows in his examples. -Covers the fundamentals well -LOTS AND LOTS of real time examples. Some people complained about how it was hard to follow where he was drawing, and yeah, I did find I got lost a couple times, but he always says what he's working on so I rewind just a few seconds and sure enough, the changes are happening so it's not really that big of a deal. I'm really impressed with the breadth of the course and how much has been covered. I've already taken several classes from Austin and have learned a lot from each one and I highly recommend him if you're interested in learning how to draw or improving your skills. I've already seen a great improvement in my own work.

Hyperbole aside, I did learn some things in this class. But by and large I found the lack of depth and explanation frustrating. There were times the audio and video were desynced and times when the instructor made alterations to a piece that is invisible to the student. Several times this would happen between videos without any explanation. The last section of the class felt very phoned in. All in all the class is fine but if you're hoping for something with a solid amount of depth or any consumable explanation of technique being used you might find yourself disappointed. I bought this course on sale for around $20 and that feels around a fair price for the course. Bare minimum if you aren't sure of something to draw or paint one day you'll at least have some exercises to run.

Very good course. The instructor explains every move he makes. After the finished course: In some videos, it's hard to see what he is doing in a sense of small changes somewhere in the picture. The cursor is very small and if he is doing very suptile changes, on the video it seems as he is doing nothing. Sometimes, I had problems with sound out of sync with the video. Overall, very good course which lets you learn and try out a couple of styles. Very nice.
