Course Description

Have you considered software development as a career? Are you going to add app development skills to your resume? Perhaps you have an idea that would make an awesome app? Maybe you just want to see what app development is like?

If you'd like to try your hand at app development this short program is for you. In about an hour, you'll build your first application guided by master instructor Mark Lassoff.

The project is simple: Build an app that translates English into "Yoda speak." You remember Yoda, right? Star Wars' elder, green, Jedi, father-figure to Luke Skywalker? Yoda had a particular way of talking and you'll build an app that takes English-language text and returns the Yoda-version of that text. And, you'll learn a lot about app development along the way.

You'll go step-by-step through the app building process. Don't worry if you can't code and don't understand the syntax. The idea is to learn theprocessof app development. See if you like it. You can learn all the languages, techniques and tools for app development later. Here, the idea is to build your first app and get that success under your belt.

You'll start off by viewing a demonstration of the app and learning about the underlying technology. You'll then learn which free tools are used to build the app and download and install those tools. You'll learn about HTML5, Javascript and CSS-- the languages used to build this app and actually write code with the instructor's careful guidance. You'll test the app and make it run in your own web browser. It's an exciting process which will help you build confidence and get ready for study of more advanced app development for mobile or web.

This instructor makes it easy to learn.

Excellent job explaining what all the parts do, which is the hardest part to remember for me. Having it translated into plain speak worked wonders for me. Now I'll be able to better understand HTML when I read it because I can grasp the why. I'm going to be sure to keep practicing this time and put this renewed knowledge to good use. I haven't used HTML in nearly 20 years. It's not like it used to be. I was able to teach myself back then. I'm just glad to have a great teacher showing me the ropes again.

I would have liked an overview of the tags and structure before diving right in.
Also, the links are outdated, which makes it difficult for a beginner. For example, the JQuery code snippets are not at the given URL. Looks like JQuery has moved on, so I have had to guess and hope for the best.

Honestly I don't really remember what was in this course. I have several courses from this company so ALOT of it repeated.

Altough I like the professor style -he's clear and concise-, this course is very very very basic. I really didn't find it useful.

Very good instruction great excellent details

This is a very short supposedly introductory course for beginners. If you, however, have no knowledge whatsoever about coding, you probably will get very confused and scared since he is going to talk about html, css and JavaScript including ajax very fast. It's still a fun course to take just for a taste for app development.
