Are you an otherwise competent computer user that understands some of the nuts and bolts of using and maintaining a computer that is lost when faced with the Linux command line? Linux is different. Once you learn it, though, it makes a lot of sense. Some of the complexity can be a little intimidating at first -- but once you know how the system is organized, why things have been done the way they are, and how to search for answers to your questions you will be a lot more comfortable using any GNU/Linux-based operating system.

I must admit Im a little biased, being that Im a fan of the Level1Techs YouTube channel; nevertheless, I truly believe this is a great introductory course into Linux. Wendell is a SUPER knowledgeable instructor, and his cadence and inflection is good (in my opinion) which is nice because its hard enough to stay awake when youre studying. One other seemingly little thing that makes a huge difference is his recording setup is fantastic, you can clearly hear him, and the fact he doesnt use a green screen from an early 2000s e-marketing ad is...refreshing touch to say the least.

It is going pretty well but it is hard to say as this course is sort of a middle road of where I want to be and where I am with understanding linux so far. I have luckily read and seen other videos on general linux stuff but this is definitely helpful but can be a tad too challenging at times. Enjoying it so far though.

Yes really enjoy it. Background and context are very important for me, allows me to understand the "why" around a program.

So Far so Good!

Hey Wendel,
Thanks for this. I was expecting a bit more depth but other than that this was well presented and foundational view that I wish I had before starting using Linux.
I'd really like you to go in much greater depth especially around kmods and strace.
Great stuff on YouTube too!

Could use more visualization around how the boot process actually works. But, overall a lot of good info.
Let's be honest. I've been doing stuff similar to this course for a few years now and have fought vim tooth and claw. But, the requirement to use vim like this really made me go and learn it, and I think i might be a new vim believer.

Wendell is a great explainer of all things linux. Love the tech channel and would buy any course he puts together.
Excellent!

Don't know if Lesson 1 is the appropriate place for License discussions, but I guess better to understand from the historical point of view.

By Joachim Hillestad on 2/20/2019

This course asks questions before the topic has been covered. Confusing.

By Colin Gauvin on 2/5/2019

Great course, Wendell explains things very thoroughly. Can't wait for the advanced one.
