Course Description

Affinity Photo for the iPad is a game changer. There's never been a complete photo editing software app for a mobile platform, until now. But all that power can be daunting at first, and that's where this course comes in.
I assume no knowledge on your part, only that you have a copy of Affinity Photo installed on an iPad. With over 9.5 hours of tuition I'll take you through the basic five steps you should consider when you edit any photo. I'll give you downloadable photos to follow along with and set you exercises to lock down your new skills.
Then we go through five photos and work each one up from scratch so you can go through the entire process from start to finish and get your workflow locked in place.
Then I'll take you through more advanced topics like selections, layer masks, layer blend modes, converting images to black and white, dodge and burn techniques, the best way to use filters and adjustment layers, using shapes, gradients and text, why Hollywood selfies sometimes fail and how to correct them, advanced selections, using curves (the professional's choice, according to some of them...), cloning out blemishes etc.
I'll teach you about the tools in Affinity Photo. But just as importantly I'll teach you about workflow and technique - when you use a tool, why you use a tool, and the potential pitfalls of certain tools. I can do this for you because I've been a designer for over 30 years and some of the lessons I'll give you have been heard earned. I also spent some time as a teacher and I'm always asking myself 'How will this lesson help people to learn? What would help me to understand this concept if I came to it as a beginner?' Feel free to read the reviews of other courses I offer at Udemy and see what other users think of my lessons. I'm happy to stand by their words.
This course will take you from novice to competent. I don't teach you a whole load of fancy effects to smother your photos with. I teach you Solid Foundations to build upon. I'll help you make your photos shine!Who this course is for:
  • People who want to learn how to use Affinity Photo on the iPad
  • Beginners who want to learn the methods as well as the tools of photo editing

This is the perfect level for me even though I know photoshop there are some major differences.

Having finished the course I feel like I'm at a good starting point for working on some favorite holiday photos that I'd like to see up on the wall. Simon has an affable style, explains things clearly, and give lots of good examples. One tip, immediately got to section 5 step 71 and download the CourseImage.zip file instead of all the individual files along the way (like I did).

Very welcome lessons to learn working with Affinity Photo and to finetune some options. Simon, a big applause from my side for the way of presenting all the videos...great job !

Definitely well worth watching. Ive learnt so much more about Affinity Photo for iPad. Im sure Ill be dipping in and out for quite a while yet.

Very precise explanation of all the features and tools. Its one of the most extensive yet engaging courses on Udemy. Super-Awesome!

This class was amazing. The teacher is easy to understand and I enjoy his dry sense of humor.

For someone who is comfortable using PSE and other editors such as Luminar and indeed the Apple Photos app itself I was able to skip a couple of the initial sections. But after that I found the course very good indeed. To be honest I would not use it for "processing" of images from RAW format. But once you have a nicely processed image and take this into Affinity it is nice to add effects/layers/filters etc etc. You can indeed get really creative. I think I will take the follow on course once I have honed the skills taught on this course

Very easy to follow and I have learned a lot of usefull stuff, thanks,

I would appreciate going to one place to download the resource files instead of getting them piecemeal in the lectures

What a superb course this is! Not only did I learn the essentials, I also really enjoyed all the exercises, which were fun, creative and interesting. The lectures were informative, yet concise and the lecturer is a real expert in the field of digital art and in this app in particular. The exercises were well thought out and helped to hone my new skills. Now I just need to apply them to real work projects. I loved every moment of this course and look forward to further courses from this lecturer.

The materials and the descriptions are very good. Due to the changes from version 1.6 to 1.7, and I started using from 1.7 I find I am taking my time to find some of the functions used. I am regularly pausing the videos to find the particular layer, or filter that is being referred too.Overall good pace and very informative, and very happy to date

Brilliant!! Been living in the UK long enough to giggle my way through the humour and lessons. This is a very well put together course. Obviously a real life teacher who has set the lessons out progressively with all the materials 1 click away. Affinity iPad is proving to be a great answer to photo editing on the go without the need to carry a laptop with me. Thank you for making this course
