Course Description

Created in collaboration with Epic Games, the course will show you how to create Epic multiplayer experiences using the world class Unreal Engine. This course hits the ground running, instantly getting you playing your own multiplayer games with other students.
As the engine underpinning many AAA games (including Fortnite), Unreal is full of tools for creating multiplayer games extremely quickly.
However, knowing where to start with Unreal Engine can be intimidating.
With a massive feature set and little documentation, you get stuck understanding where to begin. This course makes understanding Unrealsuper easy. Not only do we show you how to use the engine, but we teach you the fundamental concepts.
These skillsallow you to pick up new features for yourself.
This course is aimed at beginner to intermediate Unreal users with some knowledge of C++. Not too confident? Don't worry, the course will take you through everything step by step and give you plenty of practice to build up that confidence with coding.
We don't assume any knowledge about networking or multiplayer games. We will teach you about everything you need to know about networks from the basics of latency in networksto the advanced topics of state synchronisation.
This course will not teach you to make amassively multiplayer game. But it will teach you the fundamentals you need to understand how an MMO could be built.
Note:
access to this course comes with an optional, freecommunity site where you can share games and 3D models, as well as connect with other students.
Become a multiplayer master now, you won't be disappointed!
Who this course is for:
Beginner to intermediate coders.
Blueprint users who want to get good at C++.
Unreal users who want to understand multiplayer features.

Instructor Details

Ben Tristem

Hi, I'm Ben. I have a degree in computing from Imperial College London, and a physics diploma from the Open University.
I started working for myself at the age of 15, and never looked back. I explored careers as varied as being a commercial pilot, stunt-man, rock climbing instructor, and more. None of these provided a continued challenge, and stable income in the same way technology does.
After building and selling a home computer support business, I became an angel investor and business mentor here in Cambridge UK. I fell in love with teaching game development through one of my investments, and I now spend all of my time sharing my passion with people like you.
I can't wait to help you experience the fulfilment, and financial freedom, that having a deep understanding of technology brings.
So why not start learning to make games with me and my team now?
See you soon!
Ben

Excelente curso, muito bem explicado e ensinando os conceitos mais importantes sobre replicao para produo de jogos Multiplayer!

By David Hayes on 11/14/2020

I think the last section is the most valuable section of the course with the deep dive into how modern games handle replication and interpolation of movement. I would like to see the Steam multiplayer interface section more fleshed out. It seems to be left somewhat unfinished and not fully fleshed out for what I expected.

way faster to get started with multiplayer in unreal. to early to say much, but glad basics were covered on game modes, pawns, etc.

It was a great match for me, I started and finished the Unreal C++ beginner's course and now I am here, and so far it has been a great learning experience.

Still going through the lectures, but I've been encountering a bunch of issues that aren't mentioned in the lectures, and is mostly answered by the students figuring it out amongst themselves. I came over from the Authors C++ course and I'm pretty disappointed to see how out of date and unmaintained some of this stuff feels compared to their C++ course.

Always amazing courses. The best on the internet imo.

By Aaron McCausland on 9/26/2020

I actually haven't taken any of the other Unreal C++ courses, but I'm learning how to navigate the Unreal Engine code really well by taking this course. Thank you.

Unfortunately this course drags a lot with many irrelevant topics. I bought it to learn Multiplayer not to search documentation and create basic classes. At lesson 18 and so far the only thing that is related to multiplayer was "has authority" and "replicated movement". Coming for the master cpp course I feel very disappointed about this one. Not until lesson 88 when we finally start to learn about programming multiplayer. It's also confusing that we jump into Steam in an early section before even knowing how to make a multiplayer game in the first place!
Sorry GameDev but this course isn't interesting. Perhaps trim it down and focus on multiplayer only subjects.

The Krazy Karts section specifically was fantastic and gave me a solid understanding of some of the gameplay challenges (and solutions) when developing for a networked title. Would love to see future sections that continue to build in this area, perhaps delving into the character movement component and learning more about the techniques that the engine uses to make not just movement but interactions between players feel right while networked.

There seem to be changes with 4.25 that aren't noted in the course.
