Course Description
Just as you plan for your financial well being in retirement, it's equally as important to prepare for your social and psychological well being. That's what this course is all about: Creating your identity beyond the work role, designing a lifestyle that fits with who you are and who you are becoming, and finding purpose in meaningful activities.
This course explores what you will need in retirement that will create a sense of meaning and purpose at a time when you're no longer defined by your work title. So much of the "weirdness" of retirement comes from losing our sense of direction. We'll explore how to create a new life structure by embracing new roles, being involved in work that is greater than ourselves, and recreating conditions that contributed to our happiness at work.
If you're not interested in every day feeling like Saturday and Sunday, then you are going to love learning about new organizing concepts that are much bigger than a life of leisure. If you're not ready to give up work completely, you will be glad to learn how to regain the psychological benefits of work. And if you're worried that you don't have something that you are passionate about doing in retirement, in this course you only need to be curious and have an explorer mindset.
If you are worried about the decision to retire, you will find support that will help you feel prepared to step into retirement. This is especially important if you are in a work environment where it is not "safe" to talk about retirement. This major life decision and transition is too complex to go it alone. In this course you will find the support you need without having to "show your cards" at work.

This is a great course for helping with planning your retirement, and for reviewing where you are at following retirement. There is very little help and support for the non-financial side of retirement so this course is a very welcome resource. I am at the Reorientation stage and found my own way of navigating the earlier stages - so much of what Patrice says and advises resonated with me. I wish I had found this course in the Pre-Retirement stage - it would have been invaluable!

Absolutely. Patrice is on target with the exact feelings and concerns and the peeling some layers to find focus yet a calmness in seeking new paths to follow.

I am really enjoying your course. It's as if you are in my head. Many / most of your thoughts and ideas match mine. I am also sharing this course with my wife who will be retiring in 3 - 4 years so she understands what I am going through and gets a preview of what she will probably be going through.

Enjoyed Patrice’s presentation style. Her approach of offering a variety of view points or constructs through which to consider retirement was thought provoking. The non-interactive format was incredibly convenient and the only thing that keeps this from being a perfect experience.

It is a good way for me to review my thinking about being retired. I like the question what do you want to be available to?

Good course on how to move into retirement. Got me thinking in a different direction than what I was on after reading other books and taking a retirement seminar at OLLI.

I read her book first and this is a great follow up to her book

I enjoyed taking the class over a period of a few days. I am 58 and between 4-6 years from retirement. I am starting my search of "whats next." Patrice presented lots of useful information and practical exercises that made me think of things I might like to explore during retirement. As I get closer to retirement, I will likely go back to this course.

Patrice has identified specific areas that should be considered prior to retirement and I appreciate the direction this gives me.

I love the fresh perspective that Patrice brings to this side of retirement! I'm tired of people saying everyday is like Saturday and Sunday, or keeping busy with meaningless busyness. I need more and I can see that Patrice believes retirement can be much more. I'm glad she's provided this guide. (FYI--I learned that videos are best viewed on highest resolution.)
