Course Description

In this course we will be creating 2 colorful, large modern abstract paintings. I will show you step by step  how to add texture, line and form to a canvas and give you the confidence to paint loose and carefree without the worry of making mistakes. I share my secret techniques that took me over 20 years to perfect.

I will cover the usage of unconventional tools and materials to add interest and excitement to your masterpiece.

Without spending a fortune on art supplies, you'll learn how to paint your own original modern abstract art on canvas and other substrates.

I discuss the paints and
brushes that I like to use and the different mediums to add texture and
depth.

I use mainly acrylic paint and sometimes oil paint to create these beautiful works of art.

If you are interested in creating abstract art, this course is for you. With multi-camera angles, you will grasp every brushstroke and every splatter. Even though I work fast, you can take your time, pause and rewind as often as you 'd like and watch the course over and over again. This is not your average, boring art lesson.  Get ready to be amazed at your ability.

Gino Savarino

Born in Argentina on December 3, 1969. His parents migrated to Buenos Aires from Italy for a better life and in 1978 from Argentina to Chicago. He now resides in Chicago, IL. He's fluent in Spanish and Italian.

Soon after arriving to the United States, he needed some way to deal with the culture shock and for him the best way was through painting, drawing and listening to music. After graduating high school he enrolled in formal art classes for two years and soon after he decided to do things his way.      Gino does not believe there should be rules and guidelines in art.  He adds, "If you truly feel what you've created comes from the heart, it's already a masterpiece. There’s nothing more rewarding than to experiment with colors, shapes and styles, taking a step back when you're finished and having a sense of artistic accomplishment". This is why abstraction is the style of painting Savarino loves.

His works can be found in many private collections worldwide, the lobby of Trump Place in New York, in many galleries in Chicago, New York and Atlanta, in 172 guest rooms at Le Meridien Hotel and most recently his paintings were used in an episode of ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition.

I was particularly interested in the texture, which made the painting so much better than it would otherwise be. I loved the technique of the distressed painting and the randomness of the color applications. I think this instructor is easy to understand, and I enjoyed the variety of the marks that he explained in detail.

Really like the paintings. And the instructor has a nice style and is very easy to listen to. BUT, I would really appreciate a list of the materials he uses: brands and types of paint, links to brushes. He shows very liquid paint in the sectioned tray; how does he get the paint so liquid so that it brushes on canvas so easily. Also, does he put a protective layer (varnish?) on finished pieces?

I started this course a long time ago on my Ipad but had trouble with lesson #10. I just finished it on the PC, and #10 was just fine. Two of the wonderful suggestions in this course on the use of readily available and reasonably priced alternatives to expensive art supplies was shared with a painter friend. The teacher is also fun to watch. Love his freedom in applying paint.

I have always wanted to explore abstract painting techniques and this course provided the opportunity to learn without feeling intimidated. Professor Savarino's approach is relaxed, confident, and fun. He stresses the need to relax and let one's creativity take over. I was very grateful for his suggestions about saving money when purchasing supplies. With his kind encouragement I can look at a blank canvas and see the potential it offers. Prior to taking this course, I could look at a blank canvas and see only an opportunity to fail. Professor Savarino helped me to acquire confidence, and to have fun with the process.

Superb unstructured course in Abstract painting. Hints and tips in every direction. Brilliant advice on tools effects and materials. Really opened my eyes to all the possibilities. As far as I am concerned Gino is a master tutor in passing on abstract art production techniques. His abilities as an artist in his own right is there for all to see.The course was GREAT!!!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this lesson in abstract painting. The use of the acrylic mastic and painter’s caulk as mediums to add texture is a great idea and one I will surely use. I paint mostly on plywood panels covered with hardboard as supports for my painting projects. The use of acrylic mastic or caulk will come in very handy, thanks much for the tip. I also thought that the use of the palette knife and other implements, as example the wooden dowel for making lines, are useful and simple techniques to master. The process of painting abstract itself was very educational particularly the tip on making the application of paint using light, fast brushwork to keep the result loose and open was very inspiring. My background is engineering and it is my tendency to do some design work on my projects before I actually paint them, but the idea of the looseness when actually painting will have a real impact on my next project. Thx much for making the video, w

I like the way it’s presented and the alternative construction materials used in this abstract painting and the use of float and adhesive spreaders showing you can use everyday items you may already own in your tool box great stuff!!!! When I need some inspiration I do revisit this course.

Just might be the best Acrylic Abstract Painting lesson I've ever watched. This is absolutely PERFECT for the style I wish to create. A GREAT course I would recommend to any beginning Acrylic Abstract Painters/Artists. Thank you, Gino, thank you! Can't wait to see what you might have in store for the future!

I loved this course. Gino is a great, engaging tutor and he teaches you some amazing techniques. In fact on the back of this I've gone on to buy some more tutorials through his website which aren't on Udemy. For the money you really can't go wrong. I gave this course 5 stars because it taught me some great abstract techniques, the tutor was likeable and engaging and for the price of the course, seriously you cannot go wrong.

By Pauline Fahey on 7/29/2017

Enjoyed demonstration of some techniques but both paintings used similar ones. Would have expected for the price a little more, such as layering, glazing, etc. Also didn't understand how paint was wet for so long as acrylic seems to dry immediately. Love the u tube paintins and didn't think the ones on this course are the best. In summary learnt a little but no way worth the money considering what's available on utube for free. Has put me off purchasing any more on line courses.
