Our take
Based on the ratings of 9,432 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in August 2020. No course pays to be reviewed.
A short philosophy primer aimed at people who work anywhere near data or AI, not a technical course. Ross Asdourian spends the first of three sections on ethics itself, its history and the five common principles, then moves to AI-specific principles with founder interviews, and closes with a framework for writing your own guidelines. It runs just over an hour across 26 lectures, with three quizzes and five assignments. There is no code and no tooling. One low-star reviewer clearly took it as an employer assignment, and others mention it lining up with college coursework.
Reviewers like how it breaks morality down into plain terms and gives real-world examples on fairness, bias and privacy. One calls it thought provoking, and others a good first step into the topic. The complaints are consistent, though. Some find it too theoretical, with information overload, and one objects to section one's reflection questions as too personal. A few say the assignments are time consuming and that some exercises didn't work. One low-star review says final exam questions weren't covered in the material. Non-native English speakers note the French subtitles are wrong and the language gets dense.
The content dates from August 2020 and hasn't been updated since, so there is nothing on generative AI or the regulation that followed, which matters for a topic moving this fast. It sits beside certification prep courses like AZ-104 and Salesforce admin in our IT and Software list, and it is a very different animal: an hour of thinking, not exam drilling. With 4.4 stars from more than 9,400 reviews, it is a reasonable paid pick if the goal is a certificate on responsible AI basics and nothing deeper.
Pros
- Runs just over an hour, so the whole thing fits in a lunch break and still includes quizzes and assignments.
- Breaks ethics and morality into plain terms with real-world examples on fairness, bias and privacy.
- Founder interviews in section two tie the principles to people actually building AI products.
- Rated 4.4 by more than 9,400 students, with the large majority giving four or five stars.
Cons
- Last updated in August 2020, so nothing on generative AI or the regulation that followed.
- Section one is heavy on philosophy; some reviewers report information overload and questions that feel too personal.
- Reviewers mention exercises that didn't work, wrong French subtitles and exam questions not covered in the lectures.
This course provided a good introduction to AI ethics and covered important topics such as fairness, privacy, bias, explainability, and responsible AI. The content was easy to understand with relevant real-world examples.
Listed as all levels with no requirements, and that's accurate; it assumes zero technical or philosophy background.

Course Description
The AI Ethics Certification course teaches right and wrong, if such a thing exists, in the context of the artificial intelligence industry. This three-section training starts by asking "What is ethics?" We’ll discuss its history, different philosophies, ethics in business, and learn the five most common principles. Second, ethics as it pertains specifically to AI with interviews from founders across the globe. We will examine commonly cited principles from governments and leaders and equate them to the five traditional pillars. Then finally, we establish a framework for your ethics roadmap. The goal is to provide stronger trust between you, your product or service, the people in the industry, and the public. Despite being a nebulous topic, we'll have fun on the path to understanding morality and committing to a better future.

extremely theoretical and philosophical. I'm able to follow in English but it could be interesting to do it in your mother language in order to be more precise

Several exercises didn't seem to work. There are some out takes included in some of the videos. Maybe that was intentional to be funny? Content is thought provoking and extensive.
