Course Description

This course is for Microsoft developers who want a well-rounded approach to XML on the entire Microsoft product-line.  It is based on my 19 years of consulting and teaching XML and B2B/Integration.   To be a well-rounded developer or architect, you need to be aware of all these features; and that's especially true for BizTalk and Integration Developers.

In addition to learning XML, you will learn XPath, XSLT (Extensible Stylesheet Language - used to map XML to another XML or HTML), and XQuery. The course shows what is possible with the Microsoft .NET libraries, and what additional features are available by using the third party Saxonica .NET libraries.  You will learn how to create and understand XSD Schemas, and how to validate an XML file against a schema.

The programming languages covered as they relate to XML are C#, PowerShell, and T-SQL.  You will learn how to read and write XML, and how to navigate and find elements and values in the XML, and how to modify the XML (for example, adding new elements or new attributes).

In Microsoft SQL Server, you will learn 1) how to use XML columns, 2) how to format relational data as XML using the "For XML" clause, and 3) how to take an XML file and query it in SQL, then store it into relational tables.

The course includes the most popular tools used on Windows platforms, including Visual Studio, NotePad++, VSCode, and XMLNotePad.

The tutor moves a bit too quickly when explaining shortcuts, often rushing through key combinations without giving enough time to process or practice them. In the section on Total Commander, especially in Video 2, he bombards the viewer with rapid-fire instructions, making it hard to follow along—particularly for beginners. He also makes an error when referencing the shortcut Alt + F-Y, which doesn’t appear to function as described. Mistakes like this, combined with the fast pace, can make the learning experience frustrating and confusing.

I appreciated the use of different tools C#, Powershell, SQL and working with a limited number of data sets. Good for a high overview of the uses and functionality of working with XML data structure

The course is good. I just downloaded the mobile app… the question asked if this course was easy to watch on the mobile reader. I gave a 5 because it’s not the course, but the mobile reader isn’t very nice. I can’t get rid of the right panel to see the video bigger unless I go to full screen which I don’t want to do, and I can’t tap on the speed without it pausing the video. this is a. Udemy mobile app issue, not the course…

Only at section 3, but there's a lot of jumping around and a lot of "let's try this out". I would prefer the course be taught in a more structured fashion. It appears that the teacher is learning stuff as he goes along

Presentation is very thorough and detailed. No doubt the instructor is very knowledgeable and an expert in the field.

I have to apologize! I didn't realize the canned version videos! So here is my new valuation!

I'm about 50% of the way through. He does a lot of explaining of 3rd party tools he finds useful to have at hand. He shows the integration of XML in other languages. With that more advanced participants would get more out of the class than a novice like myself. I do like the way he does go through an example from beginning to end and explains his own errors (he doesn't edit them out of the video lessons). I get a lot out of him explaining his own mistakes and how he troubleshoots them. I don't think I would recommend this training for a beginner, intermediate and beyond 'yes'.
