Double your Forex Account using the MAGIC MA trading robot (Udemy.com)

Downloading and installing the EA was very frustrating. The video that was referred to to help did not exist. Getting MT4 was frustrating as MetaQuotes does not supply it anymore. Getting data and saving from Tickstory and linking to their data was also maybe outdated because it also did not work as explained. I think the whole issue is because one has to shop around for MT4. The optimization process was excellent and taught me a lot. I am left much impressed with robotic trading but with a distrust in MT4 and MT4 EAs. The main reason is that access to MT4 is like hacking it from brokers that do still make it available. I wonder how different MT5-based EAs will be. I will find out.

As I came from a Computer Science background, I have to say this way of optimization an EA based only on the historical data is wrong. In the area of Machine Learning, after we optimize a model, we need to do forward testing to see if our model performs well in unseen data. Optimizing over only historical data will only lead to over-fitting, the performance is not guaranteed in the future.

I think it would be good to put some of the information from number 24 at the beginning . was getting the insignificant results message when i first started the step by step approach but i thought i was doing something wrong, after googling i found the answer ...right click in the optimization results and untick ' skip useless results'.

Absolutely fantastic content. Nice clear explanations. The explanations and examples on the strategy tester, optimization and ROI is mind-blowing and eye opening at the same time. Really shows that a simple strategy can work with the right approach. I'm doing another Udemy course on EA writing which is just as mind-blowing. I didn't realize how ignorant I've been about EA's! I've been trading just a little over a year now, and I'm starting to make a little money watching markets all night long. I bought at least a dozen EA's and none of them work! I have one EA that I was able to do some testing and optimization based on what I've learned in your lecture. It now makes money, ($10-15) a day, but still not a very good EA. So I'll be looking at purchasing a few of your EA's to work with now that I know what to look for. There is still more to learn, but your course has turned me around hen I was about to throw I the towel on Forex. Thanks so much. This course should be a must for anyone starting to use EA's. Evidently I have been stumbling around trying to understand all of the in & out of the strategy tester for quite some time. Have not had much luck in getting any good educational information on how to use the strategy tester until now. In just a couple of minutes you provided 6 months of struggle and clearity has set in. Overall an excellent course! Thank you very much for putting together. Unfortunatly I was not able to test EA because MT4 standalone can't be downloaded from Metaquates web, it's not supported version. I used my broker MT4 but it failed to lunch from Tickstory Application after data was downloaded. I tried troubleshooting i.e. checked the version of MT4 and Tickstory s/w compatibility , andit was correct. I can use EA manual settings i.e. EA period 6 Offset 6, it works but not for all forex pairs. May be the course to be updated for MT5. It will be a lot of work. Unfortunatly s/w maintenance was, is and will be a challenge for everyone around the world as technology advance with a fast pace.... I leart lot in this course! Many thanks Alex !

The course is very basic, but the explanation is good. It covers basic optimization process in MT4. A not good thing is that the used EA is optimized over an specific 2013 period, so there is a strong chance it's overfit (he does not talk about it). Also, he makes no considerations about forward test, minimal considerations on paper trading before real trading, and no regressive statistical analysis is done. Also the suggestion on using lite tickstory fails in saying that tickstory is not free if your MT4 version is updated.

I never knew how to do a proper backtest and optimisation before this course. I backtested EAs using settings based on gut feel and didn't even know where to get good quality past data. I spent countless hours backtesting and forward testing EAs and have been getting nowhere. Frustrated, I wasted many hours researching on MT4 backtesting and optimisation on the internet but it was like trying to find my way out of a maze blindfolded. This course has taught me all I need to know about backtesting and optimising an EA correctly. Highly recommended for all traders who wish to explore algorithmic trading.

I would put 4.5 stars because I had some difficulties in following the lectures as I had some trouble in using EA in genetic algorithm and downloading the data source. However I decided to put 5 stars as I have learned something new anyway. In any case I would try this method risking 100USD and hopefully pay my vacation next year! Thanks a lot!
