Course Description

Facilitation. Imagine yourself facilitating a major event featuring leading thinkers in your industry. You can lead discussions and bring out the best ideas from competing viewpoints.

In this How to Be a Facilitator course you will learn the following:

  * The difference between being a good speaker and a good facilitator

  * When and how to interrupt

  * How not to speak too much or too little

  * How to put the spotlight on other people's ideas, not your own.

  * How to introduce other people properly

        * How to conduct a proper Facilitation

This Facilitation course is delivered primarily through spoken lectures. Because the skill you are learning is speaking related, it only makes sense that you learn through speaking.

The Facilitation skill you will learn in this class is not primarily theoretical or academic. It is a skill that requires physical habits. That is why you will be asked to take part in numerous exercises where you record yourself speaking on video, and then watching yourself. Learning presentation skills is like learning how to ride a bicycle. You simply have to do it numerous times and work past the wobbling and falling off parts until you get it right.

This Facilitation course contains numerous video lectures plus several bonus books for your training library.

TJ Walker has been coaching and training people on their presentation skills for 30 years. Now, through the power of Udemy's online platform, he is able to give you the same high-quality training that he gives in person to CEOs, Fortune 500 executives, and Presidents of countries. Only you can now receive the training at a tiny fraction of the normal fee for in-person training.

How long this Facilitation course takes is up to you. The longest part of the course involves you speaking on video, critiquing yourself, and doing it over until you like it. But if you get to the point where you love how you look and sound when you present it will be well worth the time spent. And having this skill will save you time for all future presentations in your life.

You can begin improving your Facilitation skills right now. You may have an opportunity to speak out as soon as tomorrow, so why waste another day worried that your facilitation and presentation skills are not up to high standards. Please enroll today.

I found the content to be engaging and informative, providing some great tips for facilitation and public speaking. Notably focusing presentations down to 3 to 5 key concepts need to be understood, using images and stories to reinforce each concept to maximize retention, and how practicing on video can build confidence improve the final presentation. While I would certainly recommend the course to colleagues, I did wonder about the relevance of some of the modules within the context of the course. Given the course's goal is to improve skills as a facilitator, modules such as Section 23: Public Speaking for Kids, Section 31: Speaking to Raise Money - Fundraising Presentations, Section 38: Public Speaking for Political Candidates, Section 47: Giving An Acceptance Speech, and Section 48: How to Speak at a Funeral - The Eulogy felt much less relevant. Overall, the course was still time well spent and I anticipate being able to apply what I learned in my professional career.

These discussion points are very important. There is so much that one gets wrong while facilitating a session. Thank you for aligning us in this way.

I have a teaching background so the goal is to give new information. This course is a good fit for me because I want to evoke more transformation which to me means allowing my community to share their thoughts and experiences. I will do this by leading a discussion during or following a course.

Sometimes I use to give too much information when doing my presentation, what I have learnt in this course so far is to narrow my presentation down to my top 5 messages for my audience to remember. I also leant the importance and effectiveness of a cheat sheet when giving a presentation.

I really understand how I can improve and train my public speaking. TJ repeats important things such as video training and goal setting. It is really helpful for me because I remember it many times. However, I think this course should be changed from 'Facilitation' to 'Public Speaking' because the contents almost focus on public speaking. Totally, I really enjoy this course. Thank you very much, TJ!

Though very lengthy, (and sometimes it does repeat itself!) it is a total analysis of "talking to folks better". To summarize : Learn how to not um and err, how to reduce a lengthy talk down to 5 memorable items, how to use body language , how to not feel worried about moving your hands, using the stage, using notes , and the most important thing.. practise on video.

This course was so helpful and gave me the tools to more confidently speak and deliver trainings at work. I have already recommended this course to numerous colleagues who have complimented me on my ability to deliver clear and engaging presentations. Highly recommend to anyone looking for tips on how to be a better speaker across multiple formats and subjects.

By Hazel Williams-Roberts on 2/6/2021

I think there is a difference between public speaking and facilitation although the two things are related. The first part was spot on but I am not so interested in public speaking as I won't really be making speeches or presenting so outside of an academic setting. I will have to facilitate groups

By Anonymized User on 2/2/2021

I really loved this course. It helped me improve a lot and not be so scared of public speaking. I went trough all 30 hours of the course, at some point it gets a bit repetitive and this could possibly make some people stop it or avoid it, however i truly believe it was a great material. I will follow you on more platforms and possibly annoy you from time to time with my video progress !

By Anonymized User on 12/9/2020

Wow, that was a lot to get through and I can use all of it. Thank you TJ. If I can offer some feedback it would be to go over the course and edit some of the videos, there is a lot of repetition. I was assigned the course and had just under 2 weeks to get through it which is rather short considering I still had my regular work to do. I think you could knock +30% of the time off the course or put up a format/outline encouraging people to run through the course over a longer period. Because of the time I did not get to do the exercises, however I think I’ll have 5 points that will stay with me for a very long time, if not forever.
