I like how you are explaining everything step by step and it feels like you chose the right order too. You do not get of the point I can note all the importent stuff. Thanks! I am writing a book myself about a fifteen year old who lives in two worlds. I was a little confused as I thougt about how wrote it. So, when my main charakter is around I write in the first person. But when she is not then I choose one person in that scene and write from theire perspective. Is that okey? Or write in the third person when main person is not in the scen? Or should I write the whole story in third person?

When I first started the course, I wasn't really into the lectures or the assignments. However I gave it a shot and this is the first course I've finished on Udemy. It was a big help to me because as a writer I know myself. That I'm very disorganized. Though as I stayed committed to the course I learned more and now I have completed it. It definitely helped me more than I thought it would, especially with being more organized which is my biggest problem.

This course was definitely an amazing choice to pick, you never get bored and it's always so much fun. The writing prompts especially are such a great way to get yourself to become more involved and give you a fun easy way to practise the specific things you learn in the different courses. I would definitely recommend this to young writers like myself as you won't regret it.

My mom bought this course for me because I love to write! I'm in fifth grade and have always been interested in writing novels. Jess and Jo are great teachers! They taught clearly, and I really understood all of the material. By the end I was able to plot out a story, and I have never been able to do that before. I had so much fun with the course that I was sad at the last lecture, but I am planning to re-watch the course! (All through the lectures I have been drinking my tea. You'll understand if you take the course!) This course helped me be a better writer, I highly recommend it! Thank you so much Jess and Jo!

Jessica Brody has done it again! She, along with her nice British writer friend, created an engaging course on the basics of fiction writing. Although this course is targeted at young writers in their teens, it's a great course for writers of any age who are thinking about writing their first novel or short story. The writing prompts and exercises are fun and simple, but effective. The course flows quickly and smoothly in an organized manner. Best of all, it motivates you to get writing. Highly recommended!

I took this class with my 12-year-old daughter. I really enjoyed the class and I am glad we completed it together. It is definitely a beginner level course and the tone is very cheerful, but that was fine for me. My daughter will probably next take a class that is focused more on the dystopian YA genre.

Don't get me wrong this course was a LOT of fun and had some great advice and lessons. The prompts were fun and I think anyone of all ages could get something out of them. However, even though I loved this course, the lectures were too obviously scripted and it would have been better to see something that felt a bit more spontaneous. I'd definitely recommend this course for Early HS and younger, but again I'm 23 and still got a lot out of this course for only $10.

Disclaimer: I'm not young. I am however young in my writing! If you are someone who has pursued writing outside of any formal training, this course has a lot of good content. I've read several books about writing and they sometimes have a tendency to be vague or function under the assumption that you are a graduate student in an MFA program. This course breaks things down in a way that is fun and easy to understand. Some of the content was review and some of it was new or presented in a way that was new to me.

My niece Elise,10, is an avid reader and a budding writer -- and she LOVES this course. She's looking forward to practicing the fun, instructive prompts when she visits again next week. She especially loved learning from two successful writers, who clearly relish teaching as much as storytelling. The lectures were clear, easy to follow and inspiring. In addition, Elise was relieved to learn that pro writers sometimes decide not to write an idea they've worked on. She also said the "good writing" / "bad writing" exercises took the pressure off learning to write fiction. I'm looking forward to sharing this special learning-and-doing experience with her for many afternoons to come. Thank you!

I thought you might be amused by my 9 year old's first 2 exercises in the course (or second and third precisely).... I managed to get him to finally stop doing the course to go to bed (at 10.30 pm!). He is now full of ideas for his current story. Oh and he just said - 24 hours after first starting the course - that he will do all the writing prompts again once he has finished because then he will be a better writer. :) I too love the videos. Love the humour you interject, apart from the content of course. Love the similar hair, one blond, one black.... Here is what he wrote, stopping strictly when the 5 and 10 min alarm went! "9/29/16 Too Much Information I was waiting at my desk when finally my teacher Kevin Brown kame in with his long black hair, giant nose that breaths very loudly, big blue eyes, long red lips, big long feet, wide head, long legs, tiny hands, baggy brown shorts, blue and yellow striped shirt that is way too big and giant shoes he went to the board and 9/29/16 Inside Mind I was doing my writing homework, when i heard a knock on the door. I ran over to the door and looked through the eye hole. Surprisingly i saw a boy i had never met. It was weird cause their was writing on a hologram over his head, it said Lucas Roing, I guess that's his name. Than all of a sudden the boy evaporated and appeared on my brown couch. He had what looked like a jetpack on his back.”is he from the future, is he a super scientist, did my character in my story come to life cause if that did happen he's a boy from the year 1900000, who wants to destroy the world or is it just my brother playing a prank on me.”
