Course Description

Setting strong, metric-driven goals for yourself and your organization can be tough, but it’s also incredibly important. In this course, you will learn how to crush your goals by using the Objectives and Key Results (OKR) framework. This simple method for goal setting is used by many successful companies across the globe, including Google, GE, and Udemy, because they are an excellent method for communicating what each team is working on and how they're measuring their results with the rest of the organization. The framework requires people to write metric-driven results that demonstrate they have achieved their objective. OKRs are also easily cascaded within an organization, so that everyone’s goals align.

This course is led by Shelley Osborne, Head of Learning & Development at Udemy. It is designed for people at all levels, from individual contributors to managers, who want to write strong goals for themselves and their team, and cascade goals within their organization.

In the Goal Crushing course, you will learn how to:

  • Write Objectives and Key Results for yourself and your team to help you communicate the value of  your work with the rest of your organization

  • Use different types of metrics to write value-based key results that demonstrate your impact on your organization

  • Align and cascade goals throughout an organization

  • Document your goals

  • Write your own value-based OKRs

By the end of this course, you will be able to crush your goals by writing strong, metric-driven OKRs. Are you ready? Let’s crush this!

I got a good idea of OKRs and how I should structure mine, but the assignments felt like they weren't tailored to myself at all and I felt like I couldn't do them simply because of that. I wish they were a bit more generic, it definitely felt more tied to engineering (making websites etc) than how I would use them.

I found this course very helpful. I am a project manager in a small company responsible for managing a large testing contract. The OKR approach should help our module teams better align their efforts with Sr. Leaderships goals, and help our employees grow professionally in the process.

Interesting discussion of topics probably all people trained in management are familiar with. For people from STEM backgrounds, this talk might not be so focused in graduation and so it was a good learning experience to listen to a specialist speaking about how to best approach Goals in a corporate environment.

I really learned a lot from doing the activities. Goal setting is deceptively easy until you start trying to do it for you own needs. And then taking SMART goals and making them OKRs is even more messy. This training helped me to take a step back and not make it so complicated. I still need to practice before I become the company's advisor, but I can see that being achieved now.

I have had years of experience as a technician and specialist, always solving problems and coming up with strategic and executable solutions but with no real way to pass on and monitor my vision. I have relied on charm and influence to get things going but with no metric based methodology to measure progress other than completion. This has been a good learning curve for me to close the personal and professional leadership gap I have been missing for years.

I learned about the old methods for setting goals SMART, BSQ and V2MOM and can't wait to learn how to define OKR goals at individual and company level. Goals have to be a way to get us thinking about priorities, asking tough questions on why we're doing the work we're doing, and making sure that we all have purpose. This is a new way to define manager work and teamwork to improve the activity in our company.

It was a nice introduction into the OKRs tool and its practical application... would like more use case scenarios especially in aligning organization gals to the software engineering domain... the speaker was talking too fast, had to pause/ start a lot of times during the presentation

By Keat Yieng Tan on 4/21/2019

Very clear presentation that makes it easy to understanding the concepts of OKR and pitfalls in setting it. By allowing other students to check and comment your assignment, as well as you can see what the other 3 students are writing, it helps you to understand much better.

This is my first OKRs course, a colleague recommended getting the book Measure What Matters and I decided to do a search in Udemy to see if they have anything in the topic. I believe is was great for beginners. She covers not only OKRs but also compares it with others frameworks. Very clear and precise in her explanations.

Too Abstract.. Lack of real world examples.. Lack of detail how to apply OKR in business, personal life. I think this course should also discuss about of what is usually the obstacles of applying OKR in real life and how to overcome it. About the tools, we know now there's alot of tools available for applying anything.. Too much option can lead us nowhere.. What we need to know is what is the best tools that you as a trainer know that applies to me as an individual, company, team etc etc.. I first knew about OKR from John Doerr's book Measure What Matters and Christina Wodtke's Radical Focus, so i have quite a bit of an understanding on the general knowledge of OKR. And what i'm trying to find in this course is very much in the practical level.. How to find my own meaningful OKR and how to apply them in business, personal life etc etc.. I sincerely hope that this course will improve.. Thank you Shelley..
