Course Description
What will you learn from the course?
In this course, GM Igor Smirnov answers some of the questions received from RCA students
Student 1 : Many players such as myself are club level players who would simply like to reach expert strength rating (2200) or even just rating (2000). Most club level players struggle with creating a schedule for an effective study plan, what to study & how to study.
Student 2 : Number of hours per day spent on each aspect of chess? How and what to train with only 1-2 free hours per week?
Student 3 : How to make steady progress? How to get the best out of chess books, chess software, playing online and puzzles? A course about how someone should analyze his game is very useful.
Student 4 : How to work as best when alone? Many chess players cannot offer themselves the aid of a coach for geographical or financial reasons.

I expected a lot more chapters and in depth Understanding of Strategy and Positional Play. Of course Igor is an expert and I always love to see more of him, hence my need to see more games analysed by

Very good info. "How do I spend my study time effectively" is one of the most important questions to answer early. Smirnov give's his opinion and it's free. Personally, I would triple his suggestion on how much time to spend on tactics puzzles, but everything else is spot on!

A bit dated and vague but the bottom line is golden. I actually love how he doesn't suggest any openings as this can kill a players creativity. As I understood from the course is that you should learn a opening repertoire in a one and done fashion and endgames as they appear but the most important focus should be middle games and analyses of your games.

it should be pointed out this is for someone who already has a opening repertoire at least and has played a few games but for higher rated players its a tad bit to basic but perhaps good for maintain your level. (900-2000)

Great to get an GMs opinion on how much time to spend on tactical puzzles vs reading/learning vs playing/analyzing. Tips on using how to the use the computer were great too.

Less is more. This course describes the very essence of continuous chess improvement and adds homework as'well and suggestions for further progress. No detail given on who you should play which is also important but over time that kind of thing corrects itself anyway. I must add that it really isn't intended for all levels since it discourages endgame study and is more so meant for the ranks below expert but above a post-beginner which should have been specified. Solving tactics for only 10m is slightly underwhelming for ex. other sources will suggest at least 15-30m and that can be just for confidence 3.5/5

This course teaches you skills that many instructors would not or could not teach you. I think it is possible to go from a beginner to an advanced player quickly with this course along with analysis.

It's good information but I knew most of it already but still useful for beginners

As informações concisas. Curso claro e abrangente.

Course content seems interesting and controversial, especially the part that advocates to study the middle game instead of the endgame (opposite to what second world chess champion Jose Capablanca recommended) , presenter's voice sounds like a machine.
