How to Become a Freelance Editor: Make Money Copy Editing (Udemy.com)

I am loving it! The teacher is breaking it down into small, understandable sections, which is making the learning experience less stressful. This whole thing is completely new to me. So, I am excited to become freelance editor and making it my job. I am 19 years old, homeschooled, not interested in college or a 9 - 5 job. I want to be my own boss and work at my own pace!

Started off a bit broad but ended up giving lots of very practical advice. Especially helpful was how to market yourself when you have no experience or prior work (e.g. writing samples) to show potential clients. If you are just starting out, this is a very useful and encouraging course. I would certainly recommend it.

The course started out pretty obvious and basic, but in the end I felt that the instructor shared good information that will help me get started as a freelance editor. She helped me know what questions to ask myself as I start a business and how to avoid common mistakes. I don't feel ready after this one training to jump in, but it's a good starting place to help me figure out next steps.

While this didn't go much into the details of editing work, it provided a lot of practical information about how to approach freelancing as a beginner. Laura gives examples and suggestions about how to draw in clients and how to continue working with them, like an editing contract. I hadn't even considered this aspect of freelance work, but I am grateful that this course is so well-developed and the instructor is so experienced.

The course is meh.. She covers some stuff about becoming a copy editor. However, I was expecting it to get granular with copy editing techniques. I wouldn't recommend purchasing this. It's all common sense stuff that you could look up on google and youtube for free.

I was primarily thinking about starting a proofreading second career, but this helps me understand how to expand on that to increase my opportunities.

This class is great for setting yourself up as a freelance editor, especially when it comes to how to advertise yourself and how to work with clients.

Good course with fast-tracked practical experience, though there were a few grammatical errors here and there! ;-) There's a particular document I would like to see included, which I will be asking the lecturer about now.

This course was very focused and on point. I was a little worried when I purchased it that it would be lacking somehow. But, every part of this was great advice for a beginner from an experienced person in the field.

A lot of really good editing-specific tips. I have formal editorial training and an English degree, but I wanted to learn more about freelancing. So good to know that I don't need to remember all the proofreading marks for most projects and Track Changes in Word will do! The different editing levels are actually called proofreading, copy and line editing, and developmental editing. The rest seemed spot on though brief on the marketing and business side. Overall would recommend.

I loved the straight-forwardness of all the course content, especially finding clients and the right way to work with them, using a contract, determining your rates and the tips for ongoing work. Plus, it dispelled the myth I had regarding the qualifications needed to seek editing jobs. I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to become a freelance editor.
