Course Description
Cooking videos are extremely popular on YouTube. If you search, you'll find hundreds of thousands. Unfortunately, most don't look very good. Some are even painful to watch...
Don't think that you have to have thousands of dollars in professional equipment to produce decent quality cooking videos or a crew of people to help you. It's possible to produce quality cooking videos all by yourself as long as you understand what really matters when it comes to making them. Believe me. I've been producing 1 video a week for over 2 years now and have over 16,000 subscribers. My audience thinks I have a film background, but I don't!
Let me let you in on a little secret: it's not all about your equipment! You can have have the best equipment, but if you don't understand the fundamentals to making great cooking videos, you still won't produce great work.
Although lots of people will watch cooking videos with less than stellar quality, they actually do appreciate it when you take the time to learn what it takes (and implement it of course) to improve your production quality. Well, unless your personality is so amazing that they just want to hear you tell stories and jokes!
Production quality doesn't just mean that your video is pretty. It also means that your video is a superb teaching tool. There are many small details that matter when someone is preparing a dish. Make sure they can see them!

I started making cooking videos just a short while ago on YouTube in April 2012 - Vegan Cooking with Love. I quickly realized that I had a lot to learn in order to produce videos that met my standards. After months of studying and analyzing other videos, I discovered the keys to producing high quality cooking videos on YouTube as a solo producer. Since I improved my production quality, my views have skyrocketed and I have over 10,000 subscribers for my channel. It is not uncommon for people to leave comments on my channel thanking me for taking the time to produce quality videos.
I'm excited to finally share what I've learned so that together we can make YouTube a place where quality trumps quantity.

It's a great starter course. Michelle Johnson gives you a few things to think about. However, some of the resources don't work or are outdated. (i.e Editorial calendar resources from 2016. I am writing this review on 2 October 2020).

Although its a little dated ( eg. you can make thumbnails in canva) its still very helpful and I really loved all the information about the shots and how to practice by looking at other youtube cooking shows. The lady is really personable, has a great speaking voice and I really enjoyed listening to her. So many great titbits too about various free software ( eg audacity) that I hadn't even heard of. In my estimation, this course is worth every penny.

I really enjoyed this course. I am a professional cook and had no idea on how to make a cooking video. I found all the information useful, but specially the tips on how to create your lists and shots plus being organize with the workflow. Completely different from what I thought I should be doing. Thanks Michelle for the course and I will start on my videos right away.

I have found what I am learning very informative. I did not realize there was so much involved with making a cooking video. In the past I merely recorded me cooking on my cell phone, and then uploaded to YouTube. What I am learning is a better way of making a cooking video. The instruction is showing me the tools of the trade into making an effective teaching cooking video.

Got this course because Udemy was having a sale and it sounded interesting. Glad I did. Teacher is knowledgeable and experienced, good instructions and comprehensive.

Recently, I just started a food blog, so I was interested in learning more about how I could grow it and my following. YouTube, obviously, is a good way to gain traffic, so I wanted specifically to learn how to create videos people would want to watch. This course teaches you how to do just that. I don't really have a decent camera yet, but once I get one, I'm going to jump right in and start making my own cooking videos. I can't wait!

I'm planning to start making videos for my recipes and was full of questions on my mind. What equipment was necessary? Is the space I have adequate? How to shoot? How long would it take me to do that? Which software should I use? Michelle answered all these questions in a step-by-step well thoughtout course. Thank you for taking your time to share your knowledge about how to make cooking videos, Michelle. Great job!!

Michelle is a great communicator, clear, concise, enthusiastic and engaging. The course is well organized and extensive, covering all you need to know to create professional looking videos. In fact the course goes beyond just the production of cooking videos and addresses ancillary aspects of production such as creating effective thumbnails and working to a production schedule. I am happy to recommend Michelle's high quality course for anyone seeking to learn how to produce videos of any genre.

Michelle has gone far beyond “making cooking videos”. In fact she has touched almost all aspects of Food photography, still and movie. Though for someone like me who is a Professional photographer I had little to no interest in still pictures or making a home studio etc. but I am sure for a novice in the field, she has provided excellent resource. I found her not just encouraging but genuine in her effort to make a good product. The course can better structured and trimmed but that is just my opinion. More is always better less. My best.

I'd say this course is limited to those who want to only show steps in cooking and DIY for all steps. Not so if you want to talk and cook at the same time, i.e. producing more interesting cooking videos that flow like Laura Vitale. You'll need someone else to help you shoot. Nevertheless, it's good to know the basics.
