Course Description

I bet you've heard the term Human Centered Design (HCD) a lot. And I suspect you've heard other terms too, like Design Thinking (DT), User Experience Design (UXD), and Customer Experience Design (CXD). They're all variations of a theme.

That theme is that everyone provides a service to someone, and to improve that service for them, you can solve the problems they're facing.

While I believe that Human Centered Design can increase your probability of success, I also believe the way it's presented to new-comers tends to be vague and overly complicated.

My name is Ryan Tracey and I'm a Capability Development Manager in the corporate sector. I've also worked in the higher education and government sectors, and I’m a certified HCD practitioner.

I'm a very pragmatic person, so this crash course is designed to cut through all the jargon and the hype, and give you the basic tools you need to start using HCD today. I'll walk you through a straight-forward 4-step process, and at each step I'll share 3 things that you can do immediately. I'll also provide you with a downloadable job aid that summarizes all the actions on one page.

So if you want to get up to speed with HCD in half an hour, and start using it to solve the problems that matter, join me.

Excellent at giving the basics quickly. Used to get up to speed for an interview and understood the concept based off this course. Didn't get a 5 for 1 reason: The given links lead to a general page and doesn't point directly to the content being referenced. E.g Stanford's link takes to a general page. I had to go to Google to find a PDF that explained their model. Same with other resources at the end of the course. Worthwhile though.

Yes--using this for low-income, elderly and disabled residents experiencing gaps (need service and can't get or have trouble getting) and barriers (reason why).

por desgracia no hablo ingles, me gustaria que tuviera subtitulos en español no solo este curso, si no todos los que tenemos esta posibilidad, seria una mejor experiencia,

An excellent crash course into HCD. Simple and easy to understand with a good list of resources. I suggest an update to some of the resources though, ensuring that all links are working (IE: Goldman Sachs link in the resources leads to a 404 error page).

I'm in the middle of process to change my career from my recent redundancy and this is perfect course for me to start my journey into UX.

This is an excellent, clear, actionable and straightforward course. Each theme is well woven and provides a trigger to be ready before moving on to the next step. I enjoyed walking through this learner experience and found it beneficial in strengthening my innovation muscles and being more consistent when it comes to figure out and level up fellow newbie innovators.

The course is very accessible (cuts right to the point without throwing big terms around) and extremely practical (the examples straight away help you understand what you need to do). The topics are really short, sweet and succinct, and you come away wanting more at the end of each, in a good way. Overall, I really enjoyed going through the course, and in 30 minutes, I came away with some solid ideas on how to tackle my next problem.

A great introduction with enough guidance to begin in earnest. Simple explanations, well articulated, short easy to digest topics and a clear example to support concepts. Thanks Ryan.

Ryan managed to break the course down into engaging and informative chunks. I didn't know much about HCD before completing this course, but I have a newfound knowledge, which I look forward to implementing sometime in the future.

I learned more in 30min watching this course on my mobile device than other "expert HCD sessions" I've been to. I liked that the instructor used really easy to understand language and examples, rather than big HCD terminology. Furthermore, each chapter actually goes into 3 practical actions you can do right now to bring that theory to life which meant that I walked away with no more than 3 really digestible pieces rather than a whole bunch of theory or ideas.
