Our take
Based on the ratings of 4,165 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in May 2020. No course pays to be reviewed.
A free, one-hour primer on what AI is, split into 12 lectures across two sections: basic concepts and history first, then a tour of the machine learning process, algorithm types, and a look at Azure ML Studio. There is no code and no prerequisites, and that is the point. Mohammed Shahin built it for people who keep hearing about AI at work or in the news and want the vocabulary without a textbook. Around 37,000 students have enrolled and it holds a 4.4 rating from about 4,200 reviews, which is a lot of feedback for such a short course.
Reviewers mostly praise the plain language. Several call the explanations simple and crisp, and one says they learned more about AI in just an hour. The complaints are about production, not content. Two reviewers flag the audio, one saying the voice was near inaudible in some modules and another that it was sometimes extremely loud, and that two-star review says it could have been fixed in editing. Another points out spoken errors in the AI history lecture. One reviewer who already follows tech news felt they knew most of it. The course was last updated in 2020, so there is nothing on ChatGPT or generative AI.
Set expectations accordingly. This is a 67-minute overview with three quizzes and no projects, no certificate, and no hands-on work beyond a glance at Azure ML Studio. The four courses beside it on our list are about ChatGPT, generative AI, or AWS certification, so this one is the quick option for getting the fundamentals straight before those. If the audio bothers you, use headphones and keep a hand on the volume. For a free hour, reviewers say it does its job.
Pros
- Free and only 67 minutes, so it costs nothing but a lunch break to find out if AI interests you
- Reviewers repeatedly call the language simple and easy to follow
- Covers the useful basics: machine learning versus rule-based programming, ML types, and the AI development process
- Three quizzes and a short Azure ML Studio overview give it a bit more than pure lecture
Cons
- Audio volume is inconsistent, from near inaudible to very loud, according to two reviewers
- Last updated in 2020, so there is nothing on ChatGPT, large language models, or generative AI
- No certificate, no projects, and little new for anyone who already follows tech news
Wonderful, simple and crisp method of teaching. All doubts cleared
Genuinely beginner level with no prerequisites; one reviewer says even a middle schooler managed it after a slow start.

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions. The term may also be applied to any machine that exhibits traits associated with a human mind such as learning and problem-solving.
The ideal characteristic of artificial intelligence is its ability to rationalize and take actions that have the best chance of achieving a specific goal. A subset of artificial intelligence is machine learning, which refers to the concept that computer programs can automatically learn from and adapt to new data without being assisted by humans. Deep learning techniques enable this automatic learning through the absorption of huge amounts of unstructured data such as text, images, or video.

I appreciate a free introductory course but the third lecture on AI history sounds like it was written by AI - the errors in the spoken text, by the Turing Test noted in the lecture, indicate that this is not a fullly-functioning AI - yet

Certainly it was a good match for me. NOTE: In some modules voice was very low rather inaudible.

This is a very good course. Its an eye opener. However I still need to go through the videos again as it was my first time learning about AI.

This is a great introductory course to AI. The structure and the examples are very clear, with enough detail to form an overall understanding of the topic. I have a better idea now about where I wanna go next.
