Jetpack Compose Crash course for Android with Kotlin (Udemy.com)

I recently completed this course on Udemy, and it was a great learning experience. The content is well-structured, easy to follow, and covers all the important topics in detail. I learned a lot of new concepts and practical skills that I can apply in real projects. The instructor explained everything clearly and provided helpful examples throughout the course. Overall, it’s a very good course and definitely worth taking if you want to improve your skills.

Da sviluppatore iOS con SwiftUI mi serviva replicare un'app su Android e volevo farlo con Jetpack Compose visto che utilizza lo stesso paradigma di programmazione dichiarativa che già avevo utilizzato con SwiftUI. Cercavo un corso non troppo lungo e specifico su Jetpack Compose, avendo già delle basi di Android e di Kotlin, e questo corso ha fatto al caso mio. Inoltre, ho apprezzato la spiegazione chiara di alcuni concetti come il pattern MVVM e la navigazione.

It's a good course and I learned a lot. Having said that, I think there could be some improvements: 1. The course doesn't specify a target audience - either beginner devs (learning Android dev for the first time) or devs who already know Android View system and are trying to get into Compose. For this reason I think some lectures focus on very simple subjects for beginners, while others have advanced concepts such as Lazy Composables and Presentation Patterns that are very quickly mentioned. 2. I think lectures could be better structured into "theory -> practice". An example of this is Section 5 State management, where we're on this loop of "a little more theory, a little more code change". 3. I understand the Instructor doesn't have to give every example there is, but mentioning a list/link of "available components" would be nice. Otherwise we can only stick with the ones shown in this course. All in all, I enjoy this course on Jetpack compose and would recommend for anyone with little experience on Android Development.

I am surprisingly amazed by the content of this course. When I took the decision to start it, I didn't thought it would give me that much value. Although this is an introductory course, but it really wraps your head around the concept of Jetpack Compose and reach you the the state where you confidently explore more articles and blog posts.

Great course! Catalin teaching method is awesome, he gives good and bad examples and breaks the code so we can analyze what's wrong with him(sometimes it's not on purpose hehe). The only thing that bothered me a bit is that we often lose some time with gradle adjustments. I mean, showing one time is ok, but several times can be quite time-consuming and a bit tiring. Overall it's a great course that added a lot to me.

You will learn here basics of Jetpack Compose, not only coding but also some understanding of why was it created and why is better than xml. Not "masterclass" but a good starting point to put you on a "junior" level in Compose. Project could use some updates, Jetpack has changed quickly since year ago. But there are already some updates and for those parts there aren't you can always ask a question and instructor answers pretty quickly.

In addition to learning the topic (Jetpack Compose), the instructor provides a LOT of insight into the issues with the Android Studio, versions, dependencies, configuration and other subtle nuances of working in Kotlin for Android. He makes mistakes and explains how he noticed it, why it happened and how it was fixed. And a great "cheerleader" sharing his passion.

The course is very neatly designed to understand concepts of compose, however if you are an experienced android developer, this also deals with basics of Kotlin and android which feels like a bit slow, more related to compose could have been added but again I think it is designed keeping beginners in mind. Overall learned a lot from this course and looking forward to use the same knowledge into production apps.

В общих чертах курс дает представление о том, как работают принципы Jetpack compose, однако есть ряд существенных недостатков, усложняющих понимание материала: 1. Практически нечего конспектировать: В начале или по окончании каждого этапа не выводятся основные четко сформулированные тезисы, касающиеся пройденного материала. Обучающемуся просто нечего толком зафиксировать в конспекте для дальнейшего повторения/освоения. Подавляющая часть формулировок и механик приводится "налету" в процессе написания демонстрационного кода. 2. Плохой нейминг: Преподаватель плохо подбирает имена для переменных и методов, что пагубно сказывается на понимании материала. Некоторые компоуз элементы (особенно в первой половине курса) названы наобум или так похоже друг на друга, что даже опытному разработчику сложно уследить за тем, что происходит в коде. 3. Нет четкого плана обучения: Несмотря на предоставленную структуру курса, видно, что преподаватель внутри каждого этапа очень часто просто импровизирует, решая опять же "налету" , какие вещи показать, а какие оставить без внимания. 4. Курс не подойдет человеку, только начинающему путь в программировании: Несмотря на то, что курс и не предназначен для новичков, тем не менее в начале курса преподаватель бегло и "по верхам" в двух словах объясняет особенности ооп в общем и котлина в частности. Однако дальше этот подход практически не поддерживается, что дает представление о том, насколько сложно будет освоить материал человеку, который только начинает писать под Андроид на Котлин. 5. "Рванное повествование": последовательность подачи материала очень слабая. Например, есть раздел, который называется "Row, Column and Box in Composable", однако в нем фактически никак не освещается компонент Box. Возникает вопрос: зачем в принципе он тут указан? Или в случае первоначального рассмотрения применения LazyColumn вообще не уделяется внимания аналогичному компоненту LazyRow. Это скорее вызывает ощущение отрывочного знания у обучающегося. 6. Большое количество слов-паразитов: Покупая курс, все-таки рассчитываешь не только полноту материала, но и на определенную подачу. В данном случае Преподаватель постоянно употребляет слова паразиты, много повторяется, запинается, часто проглатывает слова и так далее. Конечно, профессионально поставленная речь не является первым требованием для кодинг-преподавателя, однако вышеперечисленные факторы напрямую влияют на освоение изложенного материала. Так же из-за низкой скорости речи пришлось весь курс слушать на скорости 1.5.

Ok I Just finished the course. This is my honest review: What I like: The instructor is very interested on what he is doing and he keeps you motivated. A big plus is that even though composable library is evolving too quick most of the time, you will see that the course is updated and this is a big plus. What is ok: The speed. I would prefer less hours and some pieces could be removed because they could make you confused other than help you for example: "Callback for network response." What I do not like: The instructor could have made some exercises in order for you to practice. Unfortunately the best you can do is to follow. All in all I am very happy, thank you for sharing the knowledge with us.
