Kotlin for Android: Beginner to Advanced (Udemy.com)

This course was very helpful, I learned a lot of things and concepts, actually, I'm new at codding and it was easy for me to follow every lesson. It would be nice for the course to define some concepts at the beginning and update the videos in the latest versions, but even with previous versions, it was very easy to learn all the concepts. Jonny and the other instructors were very good teachers, they gave examples of very useful applications and take this course it's a good beginning to start codding.

On my personal level, Jonny was a bit of a fast Teacher. But overall, I found this course to be VERY Productive. I would not even think twice to recommend this course to my fellow mates. Being a Beginner at the beginning of this course, I am more than satisfied with the quality of knowledge I have gained throughout the entire course.

Awesome course, and incredible depth for more advanced android development! Even with a few drawbacks I give this a high 5 star rating! Negatives: - some of the course is not applicable to Windows users - early beginners may struggle, but it has huge value to learn more advanced skills! - Developers is not active or follow-up to answer questions. That said, it's an incredible course, and with some work on the student's end I'm very glad I purchased this course. Super helpful knowledge in understanding sockets/live updating, building complex apps (like the chat app), and following through with GitHub and the Google Play store. The lessons are well thought out. If you want to advance your skills in Kotlin/Android Studio I highly recommend taking this course!

I loved the course, and JonnyB is such a good teacher. There were some problems I encountered along the way, particularly with things that have changed since these tutorials were made. It meant I had to google / watch youtube videos to learn how to do the updated stuff, and then resume watching the tutorials. For instance, using MongoDB. The one JonnyB used had been deprecated, so I had to research how to use the latest version of it. Similarly, one of the assets folders for the DinnerDecider App wasn't there, so I had to make my own images. All of the above was a good learning experience, as it meant I had to problem-solve before I could continue with the course. This was my first Udemy course and my introduction to Android and Kotlin. I'm a coding newbie, and although there were many parts of this course that went totally over my head, it gave me a good overview of the kind of things that Android Development entails. This course has helped me to understand some basic Android concepts, but now I need much more practise at applying them.

The course was great and i learned a lot of good stuff. There just one think that i wanted to see i the course. I check out the swift course and I saw that there's a lot more stuff compared to that course, including integration with firebase, unit testing, design patterns and so on. So, i really liked the course and i definitely can say that i will get more courses soon, for example i really want to teach about node.js API development to cover and a back-end part of a whole picture :) Thank a lot and goodbye!

I really learned a lot in this course, I definitely feel like the pace was good considering I was a beginner in android development but not a beginner in development. pros: The end product is amazing and I felt like I have a much better understanding of the full stack of android development - specifically setting up the api server and database locally or remote was really cool. Learning about sockets was also something I didn't realize was included in this course but a huge benefit to learn about. Overall there was a ton of key learnings I'll take forward when developing my own apps. The instructor seemed like a really good guy, I felt like he was your favourite helpful co-worker but for 34 hours straight of help. The Q&A was also helpful at times - and if all else fails the instructor provided each lessons projects commits. cons: I felt like at times it could be slow, especially with the layouts - there were lots of videos that could have been quick copy pastes. I was wondering if copying and pasting wasn't done in some instances for people who were total beginners. Medium to light on explanations - but some spots where he did do a good deep dive on explaining what an implementation was doing which was greatly appreciated. Overall: I would definitely recommend this course. its going to be a great resource to reference while working on my personal projects. Thanks JB!

Seems pretty good - Going at a good pace. Like the material and am learning a lot about kotlin and developing for Android. Personally, I would not recommend this to someone that has not programmed before but if you have some coding experience you should be able to get through the course. The instructor seems to have gone missing. None of the posted questions have been answered in a while. I was unable to find some of the required software (server side API code) and was not able to get an answer on how to address this.

I have just finished your course, jonnyB. Well, what can i say: - It's easy to understand your speech and flow of your thoughts; - It is my second course, and i get from it much more than from the 1st teacher (maybe because i begin to understand more things, i don't know); - Sometimes i felt that i need more coding challenges for doing by myself, but now i see i can create something with reading documentations and practicing. Some of UI technics, some coding, nice looking assets, SOCKETS omg. Pretty balanced lections, i knew if a programmer has a beard, he inspires a trust. Good wishes to you, devslopes! P.S. If you have some time, may I ask you to give an advice: where to go further after your lessons? Databases and strucures or PHP and HTML? Or everything together and with continious practice?

Its OK for very simple use cases. Maybe should be named 'Beginner to Hobbyist'. Without addressing test concerns, it can not be classified as advanced. The socket calls are also a bit concerning as the socket based communication is brittle in production, as the only thing to be broadcast from socket is a 'newmessage' or 'newchannel' call, without the transmission of the actual content, which should be via proper rest calls. Last set of assets (for publishing the dinner decider) are not available, or impossible to find. Too many apps, and apps are not in depth. It could be reduced to two sample apps, and the apps could be more involved. Needs to cover: -- Using local storage (for example how to persist the dinner choices on device) -- testing, how to automate testing (in android studio using the androidTest and test packages which are auto generated)

Good introduction course to both Kotlin and Android Development. Jonny tries his best to explain things the best way possible, been concise, clear and going directly to the point. The course has some really cool apps and covers important stuff like the Recycler Views and Adapters. The main pitfall of this course is the lack of content! You see its counterpart, iOS, with double of the amount of content and topics such as Firebase, and others, are not covered on this one. Regardless, it is a very good course and I'd recommend anyone who wants to start their Android Dev journey to start from here.
