Kotlin for Beginners: Learn Programming With Kotlin (Udemy.com)

This was a pretty short and to the point course. I started this without any knowledge about object-oriented programming, and when i completed, I had learned the basics. I think it is a very good one as a beginning and shows the basics in a very understable way in a quite short time, without giving too much details.

I already knew programming, having learning it at my university. I believe the order of the topics is a little odd, it's not incremental (if I attempted to evolve a single program after each lesson, it would be all around the place). The instructions are really clear, however, and it's a good fit for beginners.

Well, i am giving 5 stars to Peter because he covered a lot, from the ground up, and also, the fact that Peter provided challenges and quizzes - in my opinion - makes this course stand out from others. It really helps to digest the lecture and really sink it in. I feel like i can actually start coding in Kotlin after this course. There was one thing though, which overshadowed the impression... Well, when Peter got into math, binary, hex, etc ... my eyes crossed and i lost 3rd part of the brain i had... (was not much to begin with lol). But, really, if you are just starting with development OR even if you know a bit but want to learn Kotlin from complete scratch - I personally believe this course is it! Thanks Peter!

Hi, this is Casey From Iconic Media And Design! Im an accomplished MultiMedia Artist with very proficient HTML5,Bootstrap and CSS skills. I took this course because I will be adding Android APP Development to my list of sellable skills. This essentially was my very first Full programming language that I was exposed to and I did find it difficult......as a matter of fact....I found it VERY, VERY difficult. lol My Journey into programming began by taking an Android Development course run by Bita here at Udemy. About half way through the course I felt as if I did not have a solid grasp on the Kotlin Language..( or any full programming languages in general). So, I temporarily discontinued the video series to come here and learn Kotlin from the ground up before returning to the Android development series. I think there are many concepts that will take some practice and time getting used to and i will admit (as stated in some of my questions) I often rewatched many videos over and over again making sure that I truly understood and digested all of the information that was available in order to pass along to the next video. I repeated sections 4-7. Looking back at this course I feel as if I learned sooo much and im very happy I made the decision to take this course in order to become a better Android Developer. -Casey

Great course. An excellent tutor. However, if you are expecting the author to add more content to the course, you might be in for a disappointment. The author has been away on other activities and there are some pending requests. But you should'nt judge the course by that. I would recommend people to buy the course anyway as you would gain a good understanding of Kotlin.

The instructor was very responsive and helpful. He came up with some extra exercises to help me better learn and understand. He was as well up for discussing and helping with concepts and features of Kotlin that were not covered in the course, allowing me to dig deeper. This is of course not feasible with many active students, but it shows that this is an instructor that cares about his students. This course was also a great opportunity to refresh and improve my programming skills that I hadn't used for many years. And programming this time around was much more enjoyable. The only detracting thing was that the course formally could have covered more ground. I believe it covered all the basics and more but I wanted some at least superficial knowledge about advanced concepts that seem to be core features of Kotlin like e.g. coroutines. And also a chapter on creating graphical interfaces. But as mentioned above, the instructor was willing to help with things outside the curriculum, and has said that he is working on expanding the course material so maybe they will show up in this course or in another one. Overall this course was a very very nice experience and it definitely made me want to learn more about Kotlin, and use it.

This was my first course at Udemy. I enjoyed the didactic of the instructor that explained very detailed each of the lectures. I'm not a experienced object oriented programmer, but I could follow the lectures easily. I took the whole course in one weekend and was able to create my first Kotlin program with little issues. Really recommend to anyone curious to learn this new language from the beginning. For the Java experienced programmers, it might be to basic. But for me it was perfect.

As a old(very!) programmer I find java and it's derivatives very strange. The Kotlin language seems to be comprehensive but the documentation seems to assume a Java background and uses Java terminology. The structure of the language on occasions seems quite arbitrary. I have most problems where types are used etc. I enjoyed Peter's approach and am looking forward to his next course.

TLDR; One of the best Kotlin course for beginners on Udemy! I took some time to write this review and wanted to finish the course THEN watch other courses offered here on Udemy and THEN want to see how good Peter was in teaching me basics of Kotlin so that I can apply the knowledge while writing actual android apps. And I am happy to report that it has helped me immensely. It wouldn't be wrong if I say that the I was easily understanding the WHYs and WHATs even if the teacher wasn't explaining in detail in other courses... Thank you Peter! You have taught me well! Now that I have said many good words, the review won't be complete if I don't share what it needs to improve further... definitely I am a beginner still... so please ignore me if my suggestions are just plain nonsense... 1. Expand the course - on other areas that are advanced and are used in app development. You have already mentioned that you are working on expansion so looking forward to it. 2. Bridge the basics and app environment - This is probably the most important of all the suggestions I am making. While learning, we tackle the concepts one by one which is indeed the right way. However, in real world app development these basic concepts work in tandem and together. It took me a while to understand where what concept is being used while developing apps. Either give us a course that takes us to app development with the basics you taught us OR expand this course to include few app development exercise just enough that we understand where and how object, interfaces, classes and related concepts are applied and how. 3. Quizes got to be challenging - they are good to remember what we learnt, but they aren't challenging. They are only asking about things taught in the lecture and not really asking us to do. I suggest add exercises in this quiz environment as well IN ADDITION to home works you have. Time restricted code challenge is going to be really interesting. 4. More homework! The more the merrier :) They really help develop the skill and knowledge. The way these assignments open ones mind, nothing works this way. You can ask your students to make a challenging assignments and select any that you thing are good enough for learning. That way the students doing the course and the ones done with the course BOTH will learn further. Again, I am really happy that I took this course!

Found this to be a very good course to get an overview of Kotlin. Everything was explained clearly and the examples and exercises were very helpful. I'm glad that Peter is considering a course for Android using Kotlin since I'm curious about that subject. Also, I would find a course about GUI programming interesting since I've done some desktop apps using JavaFX 8. Thanks a lot for the course... I really enjoyed it. Jim
