Course Description
Unleash Your Python Skills With Real World Scientific Projects
Welcome to "Master Python Programming by Solving Scientific Projects". If you're searching for a course that takes a fresh, hands-on approach to learning Python while solving real-world scientific problems, you've found the right one. This course isn't just about learning a list of Python functions. It's about getting knee-deep into Python's capabilities, understanding its quirks, and leveraging it to tackle fascinating projects.
Why Choose This Course?
Python is a dynamic language, widely used in the scientific community. But you're probably thinking, "Why should I choose this Python course out of hundreds available on Udemy?" Let's cut to the chase and focus on what makes this course unique:
Problem Solving Approach: This course doesn't just teach Python; it reinforces the learning with an array of scientific projects that you might encounter in your academic, professional, or personal life. This strong focus on project-based learning equips you with hands-on coding experience. You'll learn how to think like a programmer and apply your skills in practical situations.
Transparency: I’m not a Python fanatic who views it as the perfect language. I acknowledge that, like every language, Python has its idiosyncrasies. During this course, I will not shy away from Python's annoying or confusing aspects. Instead, I’ll give you a realistic and comprehensive understanding of the language, including its strengths and weaknesses.
Broad Spectrum of Projects: From text processing to time series filtering, from simulating a brain circuit to plotting state-space trajectories, from biomedical signal processing to cryptocurrency investing, this course brings a wide range of projects to the table. Each project is meticulously crafted to ensure you gain the maximum knowledge and practical skills from it.
Interactive Community: In the course Q&A, you'll have the chance to interact with me and your fellow students. Here, I discuss Python coding strategies, data types, scientific coding best practices, and more. Sharing your own clever code solutions and learning from others' experiences will further enhance your learning journey.
Coding with ChatGPT: Gain insights on how to use ChatGPT, a sophisticated AI language model developed by OpenAI, to assist you with boilerplate code and debug your scripts. This interactive feature makes coding more intuitive and efficient, especially when you're stuck with bugs or need a quick solution.

I am a full-time educator and writer, and former professor of neuroscience. I "retired" from that position so I could focus my time and energy creating high-quality educational material just for you.
I have 20 years of experience teaching programming, data analysis, signal processing, statistics, linear algebra, and experiment design. I've taught undergraduate students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and full professors. I have taught in "traditional" university courses, special week-long intensive courses, and Nobel prize-winning research labs. I have >100 hours of online lectures on neuroscience data analysis that you can find on my website and youtube channel. And I've written several technical books about these topics with a few more on the way.
I'm not trying to show off -- I'm trying to convince you that you've come to the right place to maximize your learning from an instructor who has spent two decades refining and perfecting his teaching style.
Over 350,000 students have watched over 50,000,000 minutes of my courses. Come find out why!
I have several free courses that you can enroll in. Try them out! You got nothing to lose ;)

Best course ever! Plenty of activities, interesting and relevant project topics, and new updates every once in a while. Part 2 doesn't have to be done sequentially, you can pick whatever topic makes more sense at a given moment. The explanations are great, and there is a good balance between challenge and support.

I really enjoy the step-by step coding from scratch and repeating the gained knowledge throughout the projects for it to sink in. However, coming from a different scientific background I was expecting more sciency related projects rather than pure math (but its just my personal preference). Otherwise, highly recommend!

As a recent mechanical engineering graduate, I was looking for a good course to learn python for CFD scripting and post processing. I chose this course based on the high ratings, the emphasis on scientific computing, and the instructors credentials. Thus far, I have completed all the lessons and currently working through the projects. This course has turned out to be an excellent experience for me and I would highly recommended it to anyone who wants to learn Python programming (for any application, not limited to just scientific). The course is well paced with all the important concepts you need and no BS. Mike is an excellent communicator and very talented individual. The price of the course is extremely reasonable considering the content and the quality of the material. As a minor nitpick, I wish the course covered OOP in more depth however this was not enough to prevent me from rating it 5 stars... Mike, if you read this, I would kill for you to make a C++ course. Are there any plans for this in the future? Can you recommend me any recourses? Thanks for the excellent content!

I really enjoyed this course and learnt a lot about python for scientific purposes, particularly numpy and matplotlib. There is an emphasis on neuroscience and spectral / time series analysis, but if you are in a different area of science, this course will show you the Python you need to be able to use it in your field. Mike's presentations are informative and interesting and the course material is extensive.

I'm at 35% of the course(3 projects completed). Overall I think this course is good and I bought some other courses from mike cause he has just the subjects I need, but I have two big issues with it: 1.The title is misleading, it says "master python programming" and as far a I can tell this is just python scripting. Nothing wrong with that, but for someone who want's to "master" programming, this is not the right course. 2. This issue stands on its own but is related to the first one: The IDE of choice. Mike uses Google Colab or Jupyter Notebook. As far as I can tell, these are not good IDEs to learn 'programming' on, and the methods he uses in some cases cannot translate to other IDEs or programming languages. For example, opening a file in your computer. For someone like me who is experienced in programming, so far this course is good for what I wanted from it - learn how to use python for my science work.

It has been okay so far. I was expecting to just download the required packages and instal them manually. It is worth learning colab but I would still like to find the packages online. I do not want to use Anaconda because I am not willing to use yet another installer that might do things I don't want which I might not know how to undo. Part 2 includes some good projects, especially the one on spectral analysis. Lesson 96 was one of my favourites as well.

I have no idea what to say whether I should give Mr. Mike Cohen a 5 star review for having such a great material in this course, or should I give him 5 stars for having such a great and soothing narrative voice. But, honestly, this course is amazing in so many levels, because there were times when I just couldn't drag myself to study, but then, I would say to myself, "hey, this man's voice plus how he covers the material is just too hard to miss". Please never stop making those courses, and by the way, your voice will make you such a great narrator for audio books.

The presentation is well organized and starts out with the fundamentals of programming. I started programming about 1962 and used it until I retired. I used fortran for most of my work going to a higher order one called IDL developed at the University of Colorado. When I retired I could not afford to keep it and after a few years I want to program again. This is my opportunity.

The is a great course in learning how to unpack a problem and build up python code to solve it. The problems rang in complexity and challenge but mainly involve timer series, lots of Numpy calculations and creating graphs in Matplotlib. Most of my background was in pandas and I did not really appreciate some of the power of numpy! I learnt a lot and will use the course material for future reference.

I just finished the Part 1 videos. This course is excellent and perhaps one of my top courses for programming. Mike (the teacher) is clear and precise in teaching the subject. Google Colab is a great way to learn and document program development. I look forward to Part 2 and the in-depth projects.
