Our take
Based on the ratings of 11,089 students and a sample of their written reviews, the syllabus, the course as of November 2017. No course pays to be reviewed.
A free, 93 minute tour of Python basics from Gautam Devaraj, split into 30 short lectures across nine sections: installation, strings, slicing, conditionals, loops, functions, a quick look at classes and file handling. About 196,000 students have enrolled and it holds a 4.4 rating from roughly 11,000 reviews. The title promises intermediate, but the syllabus and the reviews say this is a first look, meant for someone who has never written a line of code and wants to see what Python feels like before committing to a longer course.
Students like that it is short, plainly structured and free. Several reviewers say it worked well as an introduction and left them ready for something bigger. The complaints are consistent, though. Sound quality is poor in places, and the instructor's accent and flat delivery make him hard to follow for some listeners. Three star reviews say the later lectures, especially object oriented programming, just show examples instead of explaining, and that functions turn up before they have been introduced. There are no quizzes or coding exercises, so practice is on you.
The course was last updated in November 2017, so expect older tooling on screen, though the basics it covers have not changed much. Next to the big Python bootcamps on our site, this is the free, one evening option. Worth it as a warm up if the length of the others is putting you off. Treat it as a preview, not a substitute.
Pros
- Free and only about 93 minutes, so it fits in one sitting before a longer course
- Thirty short lectures across nine sections, easy to dip in and out of
- Reviewers say the early lectures on syntax, strings and slicing are clear for newcomers
- Nearly 196,000 enrolled and a 4.4 rating from about 11,000 reviews
Cons
- Poor audio in places, and several reviewers find the accent and flat delivery hard to follow
- Later sections, especially OOP, show examples rather than explain them
- No quizzes or coding exercises, and not updated since 2017
It was definitely an excellent tour overview of Python, but beginner to intermediate? That's just stretching it
Genuinely beginner. Requirements say nothing at all is needed, and the intermediate half of the title does not hold up.

He has done an excellent job in teaching the fundamentals for broad concepts but i just wish they were a bit more detailed. Right now he has put guns in our hands but don't know how to aim.

cateva noitiuni de python. Insa nu prea pentru un incepator. Recomand mai mult celor care vor sa isi intareasca unele cunostite si celor care deja lucreaza si doresc sa invete noi tehnici . Cursul nu te tine atent si nu prea poti urmari in detaliu. Corecteaza foarte mult in timpul scrierii .

Yes it was really amazing and it was better understable for me it was really helpful for me to get my basics clear.

It is an excellent introductory course to Python, but since it is also a quick approach, it is necessary to have a programming background to catch all the concepts.

Got clear and nice explanation on all fields of python. Really a useful course for all beginners on programming. But the problem I have with this is that i cannot get my certificate.
By Carlos Valdez on 5/11/2018
I found this course too basic but useful for a beginner like me. I'm starting programming from scratch and thanks to this course I learned where and how to start. If you are an experienced programmer this course might not take you beyond the basics. I enjoyed it because I was starting with no experience in programming whatsoever. The only thing that I didn't like that much is the audio quality. I could understand the lectures but the audio must be improved a little bit more.
By Tanmay on 10/27/2017
The course was good , it was short and the pace was good. For a beginner the basics were well explained. There are less exercises but apart from that everything was good
By Lilia Nunez on 3/26/2016
This was a good course. The Instructor conveyed the concepts very well. For a free course, this was good quality information. The only thing that needs to improve is the audio quality. There were some points in different lectures where it was hard to hear the instructor. It took several playbacks to make out what the instructor was saying. Otherwise this is very good course.
