Course Description
When developing this course I wanted to really focus on the new developer. I have set things up so you can come into this course with no experience and once you complete the lessons you will be able to construct and deploy a Ruby on Rails application. The focus is on how to construct an application and not on "building a 'Time Machine' using Rails".
Some areas covered include: MVC, CRUD, Github, Heroku, Rails Console, Cloud 9, Rails Generators, Gems and other important topics.
Once you have completed this course you will have this skill to build out your very own application using a "step by step" approach or by using Rails generators.
Our first Model is our "User", we cover how this "Model" can be anything you desire.
We then look at styling your site using Gems and Bootstrap. I also show you resources on where to find cool Bootstrap layouts that you can simply drop into your application.
We then cover how to build association between a "User Model" and a "Article Model". This is an important step in any applications as it gives the ability to associate objects in your database.
Each Video comes with a text lecture and PDF which allows you to download the code that relates to each video.
We all need to walk before we run and so I hope you will join me on this walk into Ruby on Rails a Beginners Guide.

I have a lot of experience in media production. Back in the 90’s I worked as a Studio Manager and producer, I then became more involved with developing Interactive Media. I became a fan of rails back in 2012 and dove in head first. Over the years I have worked on some pretty cool projects. I am here to share what I can and help you along your path into the world of application development using Ruby on Rails.

It seemed fine. It's obviously outdated, but I think it still has usage to learn RoR. A big issue to me was that there were a few too many typos, which I feel shouldn't exist, since they should have been fixed before uploading the course. They make the course seem less professional.

This is an excellent learning resource for those wanting to learn Ruby on Rails. It focuses on developing one application only but that means we get to see a full application getting built out step by step. It was also nice to see the workflow between C9/Rails/Git/Heroku play out over the duration of the course.Steve's presentation is great throughout with some excellent presentation. You will still want to do other more in depth courses but after completing this you will have a better idea of where to go next. Good job all round.

This is one of the best free intro courses to RoR I have come across. The choice to use cloud9 IDE made all the difference for beginners. The instructor communicated clearly and enthusiastically. Although there were times that the instructor missed some crucial instructions in the lecture that led to the sample build not functioning. sometimes they were fixed in the later stages, or after github digging. Without knowing the in-and-out of rails, I was still able to use different gems and manipulate different aspects of it. The code along definitely helped to make me more familiar with the framework. But I can't say anyone will be ready to do RoR after this course. This was an excellent introduction course. Although I could only get to about 75% completion until frustration took me because there were too many "magic" within rails that were used, but not really explains. I definitely learned a great deal and feel optimistic.

Very good course. Clear and step-by-step tutorial that is both easy-to-follow and useful in practical terms. The only criticism (hence a mark down) - the author does not explain some of important Ruby code he is using (such as @article=current_user.articles.build(article_params)). The course is supposed to be aimed at the beginners and being not a complete beginner myself I felt it would help if the author could kindly explain those bits as they may be confusing. This is quite noticeable omission particularly in view of the fact that he keeps repeating more simple things in many places. He also rushed through mail setup without detailed explanation. Yes, the author kindly provided the working code but it would be better if he taught how to write is. There are also some errors here and there that are corrected in later videos. Overall it is no doubt a worthwhile course for beginner-to-intermediate levels.

Great explanations of things for a total beginner, mildly engaging but good information and breakdown on procedures. Instructor could be a little more engaging and present in the Q&A forum. Liked it so much I purchased his continuation course, hopefully he's more engaged with a paid subscriber.

Having now completed this tutorial I am increasing my rating from 4.5 stars to 5 stars. Although it is a true beginner tutorial that carefully guides the student through rails concepts, it leaves us with a fully functioning application deployed on heroku. Well done.

The course is good so far. There are two issues I have: 1. The formatting of the code is somewhat sloppy in a number of places, which isn't a good practice. I get that it's HTML, but you should still format your code as though it's a work of art. 2. There's some, but not a lot, explanation of why we're doing each action. I can copy and paste just fine, but that doesn't really teach me how to solve a problem I encounter. If people want to figure out how to branch out after this course, then they'll need to find other sources. That being said, everything is easy to follow and it's still a great course.

This course is 100% in the top 3 courses here on Udemy. The instructor is right on the point and wastes no time teaching html or teaching ruby. this is rails course and no time to waste learning the dependancies. I've tried many courses but wasn't able to learn as much as I learned here. Can't wait to start the next course. Oh and I should add.... Baba Booey to you.

I have absolutely no experience with programming and was trying to find a tutorial that would provide context. I've tried a few RoR tutorials, and without the context I feel like they're useless, and just piles of information that are difficult to remember. Thanks for putting this together and making it available free of charge! You are making the internet a better place!

Great for beginners, explain how rails work and doesn't do much things with scaffold which is great, because doing things manually actually helps learning how this works. I also like that he leave the mistakes on video, he didn't edit the video, that actually helps me understand more, because now I know where to look if I made mistake. Thank you!
