Our take
Based on the ratings of 365 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in April 2018. No course pays to be reviewed.
A free 48-minute talk, five lectures across two sections, on whether a home-based or mobile massage business is a good fit. Engelina Boers, an Australian neuromuscular massage therapist with 25 years in practice, walks through choice, equipment and knowledge in one long section, plus two quizzes. It is a checklist of things to think about before committing, not a business plan. The stated audience is anyone considering a home or mobile practice, and with no prerequisites that is accurate. Roughly 8,800 students have enrolled since it was published in 2018, and it has not been updated since.
Reviewers who liked it praise the calm, slow pace and the practical questions, especially the advice on setting boundaries with clients and giving them space to undress. One says it raised business considerations she had never thought about. The complaints cluster around two things. First, the delivery: one four-star reviewer found Boers hard to listen to because she lacked energy, and a one-star review calls it boring. Second, the title over-promises. Two and three-star reviewers expected marketing and website advice and got material that any hands-on massage course also covers. The 4.1 rating across 365 reviews reflects that split.
Since it costs nothing and runs under an hour, the downside is small. Treat it as a gut check on whether a massage business suits a person's temperament, then look elsewhere for the marketing side, which reviewers say it barely covers. It sits in our Lifestyle list beside courses on diet planning and decluttering. Worth an evening for anyone on the fence about massage as a career. Skip it for anyone already running a practice and hunting for growth tactics.
Pros
- Free and under an hour, so finding out massage work is not for you costs nothing
- Calm, slow delivery that reviewers say built their confidence to go ahead
- Practical advice on client boundaries and professionalism that one reviewer singles out
- Raises business considerations one reviewer says she had never thought about
Cons
- Title over-promises: reviewers who wanted marketing and website advice found little of it
- Low-energy presenting; several reviewers found it boring or hard to stay with
- Published in 2018 and never updated, and there is no certificate
The facilitator is phenomenal. She clearly knows her onions and is concise in delivery.
Genuinely beginner: no prerequisites, aimed at people weighing a home or mobile practice, not trained therapists seeking growth.

I am fitness coach and my boyfriend suggested I massage people and I always push the idea aside because of the stories I have heard about happy endings, that never set well with me but I like it when say IT IS IMPORTANT TO SET BOUNDRIES WITH CLIENTS, BE CLEAR and GIVE THEM SPACE WHILE THEY TAKE OFF THEIR CLOTHES, and firmly so with kindness and calmness. I will succeed after this course, I think I have gained the confidence to do it. Thank you so much

As I am starting my own massage business, trhis was a good way to check if I missed anything with my own setup. She gives a nice presentation and makes some good points.

It's so boring and not informative

This course was not so much about setting up a massage business. All the topics covered in this course will also be covered in any (preferably hands-on) massage course. I had hoped to learn more about website making, marketing tips etc

The course has a wrong title. I was looking for a course from which I could learn about the specific business and marketing aspects of setting up a massage business. There are lots of courses about setting up businesses in ICT or shops or factories. But lots of things are just economics in those businesses.. In massage and other businesses where you have to do with people and their feelings, coaching, counseling, remedial teaching and so on, it is not about selling products or services about things. It is about selling services for people. In massage itself most of the things she said I can agree with. But not with all. Where she asks what oils you can use for massage, she says "no olive oil, use that in the kitchen only". She is so very wrong with that!!! Olive Oil is one of the most useful oils to massage with, it is a natural oil which is nice to the skin. Or a mix of olive oil and almond oil. It works very nice and is good to the skin.

I found this course to be really informative and thought provoking. It has definitely given me some solid bases to build the bones of my business plan, which is exactly why I signed up for the course. I am really happy with what I learnt, and will definitely keep an eye out for future courses. Would love to you offer some more courses, including some comprehensive paid courses. You are engaging and very knowledgeable and have provided clear and concise content. I would recommend this course to anyone thinking about starting a massage business. 5/5.

I really enjoyed the step by step approach to setting up a massage business. Angelina provided pertinent questions that I should ask myself before deciding to make massage a career. I found the section on equipment really beneficial. Excellent course.
