This course follows the same format that I have used to teach hundreds of people how to sew in my studio, fabric stores and schools for over 15 years.

We’re starting right from the beginning, so don’t worry if you’ve never sewn before. And if you’ve been sewing for a while, but without much guidance or without a strong technical focus, I'm sure you’ll notice your skills and your finished projects improve significantly.

Hi, I'm Margaret Smith. I live in Texas, and I am addicted to sewing. I am addicted to DIY projects, crafting, and sewing, but spending the day sewing is primarily my fix.

I grew up with a mom who was a professional tailor and encouraged me to be creative. I can't remember a time when she sat down and officially taught me to sew. It was just part of what we did routinely. I can remember being very young and sitting on her lap while she sewed. She taught me early to pull out the pins before she came to them. Remember, we never sew over pins.

I had a scrap basket of fabric I could play in, and I was taught which scissors were for fabric, paper, and patterns. At some point, I don't remember how old I was, I was allowed to use her machines on my own with permission.

Fast-forward about 20 years, and I was a young mom wanting to sew for my kids. That's when I got my first machine, which was all mine. That machine was quickly joined by a serger. I wanted to make sure my creations looked professional, so I began taking classes, reading books, and asking my mom and other professionals for guidance.

I began teaching others to sew, including my children, and then in 2005, I opened my own business selling the items I was making.

It gets you started. The course is easy to follow and allows you to begin sewing early, thereby building confidence. It is simple enough for anyone to learn the basics without prior knowledge, and it provides the confidence to begin more advanced courses.

I inherited a sewing machine 7 years ago and finally decided to try it out as my husband needed some torn shirts repaired. I found this program on-line and said "what the heck". I found it extremely helpful as I am not a seamstress. I learned quite a bit. Thank you. I have yet to make the organizer (which I will buy my supplies today) and, as my machine is rather aged, I do not have "decorative" stitching other than the zig-zag and straight. Good on basics, which is what I needed having no prior sewing experience. I am teaching myself upholstery so need to be able to stitch welt, cushions, etc. A bonus is now I am able to make a few gifts for my wife and daughters with the projects provided! Thanks!
