Thomas Rogers

I'm Tom Rogers, a passionate and experienced educator from the UK.

I started my professional teaching career as a High School teacher in 2007 and went on to become a Head of Department in 2013. In September 2016, I took up the role of Head of History at O Castro British International School in Vigo, Spain. In January 2019, I became an assistant headteacher for teaching and learning. I'm now back in the UK.

I have founded, organised and co-hosted #TMHistoryIcons, the only national TeachMeet for History teachers in the UK. Its inaugural meeting took place in March 2016 in Chester and was attended by more than 100 teachers. The second event took place in April 2017, the third in April 2018 and the latest in April 2019. The "teachmeet icons" franchise has now expanded to include Maths, English, Science and Geography strands, becoming one of the most significant grassroots teacher movements in the UK.

I currently write a column for the TES, the largest educational publication in the UK.

I am the director of RogersHistory, an online educational platform which was used by more than 100 schools and 1000 students in the last academic year. My youtube channel supports students to achieve their academic goals and has accrued 100,000 views. I am followed by more than 30,000 educators (and others) on twitter.

Honestly since I teach food in a specialist and autistic setting I'd have to think hard about how these strategies would work in my classroom, however thanks for all the ideas and enthusiasm

This course has given me loads of ideas for improving my teaching and learning in the classroom. Being a textiles and art teacher, there were some things that were less relevant, but many that could be adapted to suit. Thank you

Some useful ideas on supporting my existing practice. For example, using the scoring format of Tennis to play what is essentially Mallets Mallet and also the consecutive questioning game of fact football. I look forward to trying out challenge the teacher too!

Very basic activities. They are okay, but was expecting things I hadn't heard of. Great starters, but not activities that I could embed into a more student directed course

By Barbara A McCurnin on 11/30/2018

The instructor's accent is a bit of a distraction. Additionally, the explanations could stand to be more process oriented and detailed. It seems as though there are gaps in the details given that the student is expected to fill in and understand, despite perhaps having very limited or no knowledge on the subject matter.

This is an excellent course for the new and experienced teacher alike. It gives a number of simple practical suggestions for how to get students learning in an active and motivating way in any classroom. Highly recommended.

As a student-teacher, this course gave me some great ideas for when I go out on either practicum or when I have my own class. I really love how you can change the level that the activities are aimed at. They are really great. I recommend this course 100%!

By Ben on 4/9/2016

Some great examples of classroom activities, well explained. As a Design Technology Teacher I often find it hard to work out how to apply activities in a practical environment. These explanations make it easy to see how to adapt the concept to your subject area.

By Tara Nattrass on 3/30/2016

I would highly recommend this course to anyone wishing to enter the teaching profession or already in it, it is fantastic! The course offers a variety of classroom strategies suited for all subjects, ages and abilities. There is something there for everyone. One worry I had was ensuring my students stay motivated during lessons, but this course has given me lots of new ideas and strategies to use in the future, as well as keeping the enjoyment into the lessons. Brilliant course. Thank-you very much!
