Book of Genesis (Udemy.com)

Once again the content and delivery of this course were interesting and totally Bible-focused. I would recommend this course to both those new to Bible study and to those who have been refining their knowledge and skills over many years. There is much to be discovered and rethought through. Dr. Wright blows away the cobwebs of archaic concepts and ideas offering new ways of considering ancient stories which should be a well-known part of the heritage of all those who believe in Jesus. The Bible is shown to be a coherent story that spans time and ethnicity and invigorates faith and hope.

Absolutely mindblowing. I have read quite a lot of Dr Wrights books and watch his lectures on YouTube, now done most of his courses on Udemy but I have to say this is the most exciting and imperative course to understanding the theology and purpose of the Bible as a whole. There were 'lights' being switched on all over the place, missing links revealed and all conveyed in Dr Wrights loving manner. It is clear he adores God and desires for us all to come and grow closer to our God. This course on Genesis is first class and a MUST do to who God is and his purposes. Thank you Tom Wright for your love for God and for others.

This is so awesome because it clearly identifies how the flesh in God's people gets in the way of the promises of God but how the presence removes the evidence of flesh to fulfill the promise.. . . So awesome . . .how we don't deserve it we can earn it yet by Love it is granted to us by his Spirit. Thank you Jesus!!

After 56 years as an Accredited Local (Lay) Preacher of the Methodist Church, 3 strokes robbed me of my voice and the consequent loss of the privilege of leading worship and preaching. Prof. Wright's teaching made me realise how limited was much of my preaching. I gained immeasurably from The Storied World of the Bible and longed to fill in some of the details. The causes on The Servant King and now on Genesis have met that longing excellently. I am told that with continuing therapy my voice may be restored and that I may be able to return to the pulpit . If so, God willing, I shall find much to inform my preparation and ministry from all the courses I have been privileged to share.

It took me awhile to finish it, and I had to do a bit of review which was a very good idea. Establishing the links between Genesis all the way to Revelation and the completion of God's project gave me shivers of excitement.

Even though I have studied these early chapters many times and read many theologian's views of them, Tom Wright manages to inject new information and dare I say zeal into God's purposes. Absolutely brilliant. As I go further my earlier opinions are only reinforced. Many parts of the story such as Jacob and Esau are very well known but Tom Wright enables the stories to be looked at in a much broader and directional way which is very helpful.

A lot of us who have grown up in the United States don’t realize how much we read Genesis 1-2 through our own cultural lens. The result is the perception that science and the Bible are at odds with each other. Some of us grow up with an inherent distrust of science and it shows. In reality, Genesis one and two are literary masterpieces. Our understanding of who God is, what it means to be human, and God‘s hope for the world grows tremendously when we read these chapters through the lens of its original audience. Thank you very much for this course.

I appreciate this course on Genesis by Professor N. T. Wright. His insights on the creation account are refreshing in that they serve as a corrective to the teachings that have sought to put the Bible against the discoveries of science. But my favorite part of the course was his last lecture as he skillfully ties the narrative of Genesis to the rest of scripture, particularly the teachings of the Apostle Paul. I found this course both refreshing and motivating for my own spiritual growth and service.

"NT Wright conveys God's 'Genesis Sermon'!" Themes which have illuminated previous courses by the good Professor (Creation/New Creation; Exile/Redemption; etc.) reappear in Genesis with the additional overlays of Purpose, Promise, Presence and Provision to guide us through the millennia-old narratives. I found dimensions to these I'd never imagined from Sunday-schooling all those years ago, forcing questions I'd never considered: Is God the master puppeteer, even while dealing with extraordinarily wayward subjects...or does God somehow redeem the course after every wrong turn (of which there are many in Genesis!). Letting this fresh perspective wash over me certainly rooted out old, unexamined prejudices and renewed my faith in a loving God with purposes that should inspire us all to move forward with the Kingdom project.

Prof Wright demonstrates how the grace of God works to bring about the success of his plan despite human failings: those who are the promise bearers are also the people with the problem. He demonstrates the importance of Genesis to our understanding of the whole of God's plan from creation, through the reconciling work of Jesus, to new creation.
