Our take
Based on the ratings of 1,491 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in September 2024. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a six-hour course on the psychology of stress, anxiety and panic attacks, taught by Elmira Strange, a research psychologist and former UK university lecturer. It runs across 12 sections and 55 lectures, covering stress, coping, the main anxiety disorders, panic attacks versus heart attacks, and a section of practical tools. The audience is wide: psychology students, people curious about their own anxiety, and workers in customer-facing jobs. It is an overview, not clinical training, whatever the accreditation line in the description suggests.
Students like how clear and unhurried it is. Reviewers say she explains things well and speaks slowly enough to take notes, and that it works for people with no psychology background. About 90 percent of the 1,491 ratings are four or five stars. The complaints are consistent, though. Some call it voiced-over reading material, with repetition and topics that jump back and forth. One reviewer found the captions often differed from the transcript and struggled with the accent. Another wanted more hands-on direction for helping anxious people.
One reviewer wanted a demo in the breathing exercises section, where the tutor just reads the instructions out. The course was last updated in September 2024, so it is over two years old, though the subject does not date fast. If you want a calm, plain-English introduction, it does the job. Anyone planning to work with clients should treat it as a first step and expect to look elsewhere for depth.
Pros
- Slow, clear delivery that reviewers say leaves time to take notes
- Easy to follow with no psychology degree, per several reviewers
- Covers panic attacks versus heart attacks and the main anxiety disorders
- About 90 percent of 1,491 ratings are four or five stars
Cons
- Reviewers say it reads like voiced-over material, with little on-screen demonstration
- Repetition and jumping between topics, according to lower-star reviews
- Captions sometimes differ from the transcript, and the accent bothered one reviewer
I like how this breaks down the theories and shares facts about anxiety and panic attacks.
Marked All Levels. The page says no psychology degree is needed, and reviewers without one found it easy to follow.

Gracias.

This course was definitely insightful to me as a previous sufferer of Anxiety; it broadened my knowledge on where it could possibly stem from and also how to differentiate between and anxiety attack and panic attack. It was much more than expected and would recommend this course to anyone wanting to do a short course. Knowledge is Power.

I work as a psychologist and this course provides me with the relevant methodologies, concepts and real-life examples to treat with clients. I benefit from this course both personally and professionally because the techniques are applicable for both. As a clinician, I can use mindfulness and how to be happy for my selfcare.

I like the way Elmira discussed the topics personally and professionally. She really has the expertise on the topics, how it affects us and provides resolutions that are very helpful. I also like the quiz at the end to test and validate what I've learned. Moreover, I had read articles in past years on wellbeing, yoga, meditation etc. before on how correct breathing can calm you down and how effective it is. I wanted to also share from personal experience that I find listening to new age music help beneficial for me to cope up with stress (some of my favorites are Kitaro, Medwyn Goodall, Enigma etc.). There are also free music you can find in YouTube with certain brainwaves (e.g. alpha, betta etc.) which can help us to relax, calm down and destress. I definitely recommend this course for learners who want to understand stress and anxiety and how to deal with it.

Goede training m.b.t. het onderwerp. Verschillende gezichtspunten. Compleet. Veel goed te gebruiken verwijzingen naar passende bronnen: literatuur, websites. Maar wat een tempo! Ben blij deze training te hebben gedaan en deze training beschikbaar te hebben om terug te kijken naar een aantal onderwerpen.

I believe that this course will help me to understand the difference between worry and anxiety. As the course owner is the research assistant and lecturer of the university she has deep knowledge of dealing with anxiety and worry. Looking forward to learning a few coping mechanisms as well.

The course is simple and easy to understand, which is good for someone like me who has no degree in Psychology. I think presentation can be improved by discussing one type in an organized manner and not jumping from one type to another back and forth throughout the course. There are opportunities for demo in the breathing exercises section which could have been better than the tutor just reading the instructions. Overall, it's like a voiced over reading material.

The course forays into some interesting topics such as the reason for the worry and theories about Panic attacks. Providing a brief introduction to the application of CBT and REBT in relation to stress was helpful. Thanks and gratitude to Elmira Strange

I'm a retired veteran and work with young adults. My first reason for the course is to improve myself so that I can help others. Mental health is important to me first. With this training, it will help me to be more effective when working with others.
