Course Description

Learn practical DBT skills for emotional regulation, healthier relationships and psychological wellbeing

Why do some emotions become so overwhelming?

How can we learn to respond to difficult emotions without allowing them to completely control our behaviour?

Welcome to Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

DBT is an evidence-based psychological treatment originally developed by psychologist Dr Marsha Linehan for individuals experiencing severe emotional dysregulation. Today, DBT and DBT-informed skills are widely studied and applied within mental health, counselling and psychological wellbeing.

What will you learn?

Throughout this course, we will explore both the psychological foundations of DBT and its practical application.

You will learn about:

  • emotional dysregulation and why emotions sometimes feel overwhelming;

  • black-and-white thinking and emotional avoidance;

  • mindfulness;

  • distress tolerance;

  • emotion regulation;

  • radical acceptance;

  • relationships and conflict;

  • anxiety and overthinking;

  • depression and emotional numbness;

  • Borderline Personality Disorder and its relationship with DBT;

  • and more!

Learn to Think Psychologically

Throughout the lectures, you will encounter realistic examples, psychological scenarios and reflection questions designed to help you understand why behaviour happens.

Build Your DBT Toolbox

You will explore practical skills that can be applied to everyday emotional challenges, including learning how to:

  • notice emotions before automatically reacting;

  • tolerate intense emotional distress without making the situation worse;

  • examine whether emotional interpretations fit the facts;

  • communicate needs and boundaries more effectively;

  • understand emotional triggers and behavioural patterns;

  • and more!

    No previous knowledge of DBT is required.

    Your DBT Guidebook

    The course also includes a companion DBT Guidebook containing key concepts, reflection questions, practical exercises, DBT tools and recommended resources for further learning.

    You can use it alongside the video lectures and return to the exercises whenever you want to revise or practise the skills.

    P.S. The course is suitable for both personal and professional development and may be especially valuable for those interested in counselling, psychotherapy, coaching, mental health work, psychology, or emotional healing.

    P.P.S. The course is fully accredited by the International Association of Therapists (IAOTH), and instructions for obtaining your certificate of completion will be provided at the end of the course.

The course was informative, definitely. A four star, I was looking forward to few worksheets or homeworks that could be provided to the client. Provided a little more on what kind or types of worksheet could be provided during the session, would have been really helpful.

By Donna on 8/18/2026

It could have gone into more detail either way examples of what to do with client. It was repetitive. She did explain things well just clear examples would have been good.

By Odel Millman on 6/23/2026

She explains things nicely though gives a bit of a down feeling when constantly reminding that counsellors and the likes usually go to university and learn for several years. Some people have a knack for counselling and helping others and due to lack of time and or money cannot attend university which is why I think Udemy is great because it just so happens that some people can learn enough online courses to get them going depending on how good and efficient the course is. However, she really needs to givve clear examples or role play to be a perfect course and to answer questions!!

This is a great lecture. I had only planned to listen to 2 lectures but I was so captivated by the knowledge and the speaker is excellent, I kept listening until I couldn't anymore. DBT is new to me but I am very interested. The information she is sharing and her orator skill is impeccable. I'm all in and can't wait to her more.

By Dr Shahnaz Aslam on 8/10/2024

I would like to see a video with real client-therapist interaction, to better comprehend the Acronym. How may, I practice the skills to be learned, then imparted, practically. Q. Need we choose a "practice client" at the beginning of this course? Practice, document and improve, as we go?

By Erica Cole on 10/15/2023

Very good foundational and theoretical course on DBT. It complimented the DBT Manuals I purchased separately. This course does not cover "how" to hold DBT coaching sessions, but it is a great primer course to invite someone to dive deeper in the subject if they subscribe to the method.

By Sanjay Rasheed on 11/13/2022

Good and clear course, would have rated 5 stars if they were handouts or pdf to accompany the lectures. It definitely gives you a clear understanding of the principles of DBT and it’s uses and limitations

By Natsuko Ozawa on 6/28/2022

For me, It is still ongoing the fully-understandable level, but definitely expand my CBT knowledge to the next level!! Will constantly re-reading and add to my existed materials while learning 1st time learning for those videos♪ Appreciate your materials!

By Rachel Klechevsky on 12/27/2020

I've just finished my honours degree in counselling Psychology, end 2019 and have not been able to find work as I need to do me Masters degree before I can get registered with the HPCSA BUT, I cant do honours until I have experience. I'm hoping this course will give me a refresher and I can offer my services as an assistant and so get some experience and apply again for Masters

By Terry Esposito on 12/6/2020

I am currently an addictions therapist in New York U.S.A and I'm finding this course thus far a good fit for me. I would like to see the instructor more but perhaps that's coming in next lectures.
