Course Description
Note: this course is outdated and archived. New blockchain development courses from the course author are coming soon.
Replacement courses will cover account abstraction for easy UX, multichain applications, security, CI/CD for blockchain applications, and more.
Learn to build a web game that's connected to the blockchain! Following the official Elemental Battles tutorial, this course introduces blockchain communication concepts as we construct an application with a smart contract and a ReactJS/Redux frontend.
This course is appropriate for people with some programming experience, but it does explain basic concepts when needed to make sure no one is left behind. Code starting points and graphic assets are provided along the way. Students will need a macOS, Linux, or Windows 10 Pro computer.

I'm Co-Founder and Head of Technology at Obi, a fresh start for Web3 UX. Previously smart contract developer for Deviants (now on ImmutableX), creator of educational materials for smart contracts and distributed applications with 50,000+ enrollments in total, and creator of Bites Digital Group (sold to Flipside Crypto).
I'm driven not just by building cool things but also teaching others how to build them, too. On the side, I enjoy other nerd things. Mostly space, sci-fi, and board games, and sometimes all three at once.

bit confusing in the lessons because one video were seing contracts and account statistics. the next lesso you explained that we wont see what your seeing. in the mean time id gone to telegram to find out if things were broken when i installed now realising that it was because i hadnt built/deployed a contract. maybe also some things are outdated but i will forge on as c++ is c++ regardless of newer freatures to contracts

Great tutorial, although you rushed through the React bit quite fast. You could expanded a bit more on it, and how Redux works, and all that good stuff. But all in all cleared up some C++ things that were confusing me after I've finished reading the official docs. Thanks!

nice intro to eos development. the react parts go really fast for someone without react experience, but teaching react more thoroughly wouldve been very offtopic. so it gets enough done, and students can learn on their own outside of this course. wish this was updated with the additional newer material from the youtube videos, and ultimately through production, which would be cool.

No need to complete the course my comments, I can do it right now after I completed Section 3 and I can say this course rocks. Peter really explains every section with such a energy, his instructions, audio and video are outstanding, I will use it to complete my pet project, now that I have a better idea of how to use EOSIO.cdt and Frontend.

I originally gave this a 5 star, but reduced it down to 4 stars. I really think its cool there is an EOS developer tutorial. However, there are several small errors and inconsistencies in the tutorial that leads to many hours of wasted time. Two that I can point from the top of my head are: 1) The confusion with user, username, name. There is a point in the tutorial where he uses user variable, but later changes to username. It also doesnt help there is 'name' type which causes more confusion to a new person. Perhaps this can be clarified that there are three distinct kinds of data for the app(user, username, name) or clarify that a mistake was made and its only username that is used. 2) On Section 7, I after implementing the Seed randomization function, the contract failed to compile (would just hang 'building'. For a while I couldn't figure why and thought it was eosio.cdt issue. Turns out after many hours of trial and error, and using different builds(from copying from video and downloading from resources) the gameplay.cpp file with the seed function is causing this problem. Im currently trying to pinpoint what area is causing this. Also some advice for future tutorials. I think from a learners perspective, it helps to have diagrams and flow charts to really give us a systematic view of what is going on. This helps a lot for us to understand the concepts, instead of just following along side the code. Also, it may also help for the presenter to review what he will type out instead of just coding 'on the fly'. Its hard for a learner to follow along when the presenter makes mistakes in the middle of the video, goes back changes stuff, etc. I get this stuff is being made in peoples free time probably, but if these improvements can be made, it would benefit the community as a whole. Thanks!

I'm not going to lie, this tutorial is not the greatest. The instructor sometimes focuses on very basic basic things like for loop, ternary operators, and switch statements. However, he then assumes a lot of knowledge in regards to things like React, Redux, node, npm, etc. Quite frankly, if you don't know what a for loop or switch statement is then this course will be WAY over your head. It also will not teach you how to use React, Redux, or program in C++. There is zero info on the blockchain and how an EOS contract is encompassed in the contract. This info is just assumed on the student's part. Compared to one of the courses done by Andrew Mead, this course is absolutely terrible. The instructor should watch a couple of Andrew Mead's courses to see how a truly great course is produced (I took his courses to learn React, Redux, and Node). However, this course did show that React, Redux, and C++ could all be used together to write EOS contracts. That's the bottom line. I've written a couple small projects using React. I'm familiar with the bare bones basics of Redux. I used to write programs in C around 30 years ago, and I have a general idea of EOS contract concepts. So this course was perfect for me. It showed me what I needed to know to get started. For me, it was a great course, but unless you have some experience with React, Redux, and C++ then it will probably be way over your head. If you do have this experience then you will probably find all the basic stuff on things like for loops annoying if not insulting. The end of the course also seems unfinished. There really isn't anything on deployment, or WASM, or testing on your local net versus actually running on the mainnet. There should also be far more detail in regards to costs, and the course doesn't seem truly usable as written with all the caveats given in regards to security. So it is enough to get you started, but not enough to actually get you to deployment. For me, it was a 4 star course, but I suspect for most people it is a 2 1/2 or 3 star course.

The amount of value presented in this course, is downright unmeasurable. This has changed my life for the better. As an experienced programmer C++ that lacked the tools to tackle EOS swiftly, this course probably saved me another 3 months of running around in circles. This is a MUST for anyone looking to finally dive into EOS development.

I like the rapid yet highly graspable delivery. Oftentimes, when watching programming courses, I'll get frustrated with the slow pace and set it to 1.25x or 1.50x speed. This tempo is great. The visual information is on point and perfectly guides the presented information.

Solid intro to essentials coding. I do wonder if it would have been worth pointing out passing the variable to the void function by reference, but perhaps Peter will cover that in the next lesson......but this is coming from a "EE" and not a programmer by trade. Thanks for an awesome dive into this.

The examples and explanations for concepts are both entertaining and informative. Very easy to follow along. I highly recommend to anyone with at least some programming background who is interested in blockchain development.
