See what others are saying
5 stars - "This is the only course on advanced S3 on Udemy. Outstanding course." - John R.
5 stars - "I like clarity of the presentations, both slides and verbal, and the level of the subject coverage. Videos are direct and exceptionally clear." - Mark M.
Take advantage of affordable, highly scale-able storage in your own projects
Whether you need a place to back up information or host a blazing fast static website, Amazon S3 can deliver. This course will give you the know-how to take advantage of the scale-ability, redundancy, and bandwidth that is backed by Amazon's global infrastructure.
Gain in depth knowledge
The goal of this course is to give you and in depth knowledge of Amazon S3 and hands on practice using it so you can use it in your own projects or organization. This course covers the basics as well as the more advanced parts that sometimes get left out such as command line commands and detailed security policy examples.
Master the AWS command line interface for S3
Become an S3 command line guru. With over 10 lectures dedicated to learning the command through hands-on examples, you will learn how to move data around effectively and efficiently with the command line skills you will add to your tool belt.
Break through the confusion that often surrounds Amazon S3 security policies
Often with AWS there is more than one way to accomplish the same thing. Permissions and security is one of those areas that often gets confusing. I teach security through hands on example scenarios so you can be confident you are properly securing your data. I hope you will find that the security section brings clarity to how IAM Users, IAM Groups, IAM Policies, Bucket Policies, and ACLs all fit in to implementing solid security.
Have a reference to fall back to when you need it
I hope you will also find this course helpful as an ongoing reference. Forgot how to upload files from the command line? Well, hop back to that lecture and in less than 5 minutes you've accomplished your task. Or, maybe you don't remember how to setup that security policy. Jump to that security lecture and download the example policy document and save time searching Google for it.

My journey started with a Texas Instruments TI-99 back in the 80’s. Yes, I was around then (but barely missed the 70’s). My first programs consisted of copying BASIC programs from library books and then tweaking them to see what they would do. In the mid-90’s, as a teen I learned C++ and Pascal with Borland Delphi. I loved programming and the infinite possibilities it opened up to create things.
I continued on to earn a Computer Science degree from Texas Tech University. My first paid position was as an intern at IBM testing the OS/2 Warp operating system. I thought it was cool to work on a product I’d seen advertised on TV. When I graduated, I took a position at IBM as a Software Engineer doing Java development and testing on financial service products. I then moved to a small company, Smooth Fusion. I started as a software engineer and eventually became an architect. The work was fun and interesting and I got to work on cool projects for big brands like Microsoft, Trans-America, and Alaskan Brewing.
After Smooth Fusion, I did a tour with Tyler Technologies in municipal government software as a software architect. Then I set out and started my own company building custom full-stack solutions. I’ve had the privilege of helping create solutions for cotton gins, precision agriculture, warehousing, and even sports scouting software.

The training is very steady and straightforward, clear and confidence-building. The resolution of the video is poor in some spots, despite my internet connection being excellent. And the entire terminal would have been wisely placed in a frame to avoid colliding with the video controls that overlay the content. These issues may not entirely be the author's fault, but they degraded the experience nonetheless. I've run into at least one syntax issue that aged into error, having to do with SetTag and single quoting the array, but commenters offered a solution that keeps this course relevant in 2024. Still, this is a very good corse and I recommend it.

I have not used S3 yet, so I was looking for an introductory course. This was perfect for me. When I start working in S3 with a new client, I will come back to this course often to review how to do the different operations.

Introduced to a lot of new concepts. Mainly purchased to learn and understand in-depth how bucket policies work. It was good, but I would have like to see more examples of policies and how each policy should be interpreted. Basic use-cases for a typical website, for example. Overall, the course was worth the time and money. Course creator does not know how to correctly pronounce "metadata" though. I encourage him to look it up and self-correct since it's good to know the correct pronunciation of words - especially if you use them a lot in your day-to-day profession.

Excellent course and good pace. Presented by an educated person but human who even shows errors. Not stiff or monotone, felt like learning from a co-worker. Screenshots / videos are a little outdated. Almost all of it matches with current, but some areas like advanced Bucket create options have changed and added new choices. Had to pause and readjust based on the new things being seen but was able to work it out in the end.

easy to follow, seems to cover alot, also alot of steps are repeated for different tasks. Some people might find this annoying, but I find it really drills in how the UI works.

Very good video quality, nice and peaceful streaming, perfect clear logical structure of sections, speed exactly as I needed, very valuable information for me.. Thank you very much :)

Quite good course, giving you most of of the information about S3. But there are some new options in S3, which are not covered by this course, eg S3 Access Points, Inventory configurations, Object Lock, Transfer Acceleration. Also it would be nice to have some more exercises to do, especially on writing JSONpolicies. This is something I miss most.

The course is really good with detailed explanation and easy to follow. Only thing i was expecting more is some more quiz after say each section.

In general the course is good and it’s worth going through. The tutor is clear, knowledgeable and his pacing is adequate. Unlike other tutors, Matt shows many aspects of S3 and other services (e.g. Route 53) which you have to pay for, even on aws free tier. This includes use of Glacer, expedited recovery, domain registrations, CloudTrail (not sure if this is free or not, but it’s still good to see it). The use of CLI is also valuable. However, the course already shows signs of being a little outdated. For instance, it does not cover Deep Archive storage class nor S3 Batch Operations. Other potential criticism is that some aspects of S3 are covered too briefly in my opinion. For example, in lifetime cycles section there is no info on its waterfall pattern (can't transition between storage classes at will). Other example that I think would be good to have extended upon are different scenarios of accessing buckets and objects and how to setup and manage permissions for that. For instance, accessing objects belonging to account A located in a bucket owned by account B. In other words, it would be good to learn about cross-account access to buckets and objects. A recommendation for the course update, apart from covering Deep Archive and S3 Batch Operations, would be demonstration on how to use CloundFormation for creation of buckets and bucket policies.
