Our take
Based on the ratings of 3,782 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in February 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a short course, about 4 hours across 78 lectures, built around labs in the AWS console and CloudFormation. It starts with the plumbing: IAM roles, KMS, SNS, S3 and CloudWatch. Then come the Glue Catalog and crawlers, a first pipeline, job debugging, streaming, Data Quality and DataBrew. The audience is ETL or warehouse developers who already know ETL concepts but are new to AWS. Data Soup, the working data engineers behind it, last updated the course in February 2026.
Most of the 3,782 ratings are 4 or 5 stars. Praise goes to the clear structure, an approachable delivery that assumes little, and the breadth of topics, DataBrew in particular. The complaints are consistent too. Some reviewers say the pace is quick and the spoken English hard to follow. Others report missing CloudFormation code or skipped steps in the labs, and say the AWS screens no longer match the recording. A few note the assignments just repeat the videos and the Python code goes by fast.
Think of it as a map of Glue, not a deep dive. CloudFormation is shown rather than explained, and there is little on production patterns like orchestration. For anyone who wants to see every Glue feature in one sitting and is happy to fix the odd broken step, it is good value. Readers with no Glue background may struggle. Anyone who needs Spark optimization should look elsewhere.
Pros
- Covers IAM, KMS, SNS and CloudFormation setup before any Glue job, so the labs run end to end
- Includes Glue Data Quality, DataBrew and streaming jobs alongside the core Glue Studio pipelines
- Short at about 4 hours, so a working overview fits in a weekend
- Has a section on how Glue jobs fail and how to debug them
Cons
- Some reviewers say CloudFormation templates are missing or only partly shown on screen
- Fast pace and hard-to-follow speech for some, and the Python code goes by quickly
- Light on use cases and Spark depth, and the assignments repeat what the videos do
The instructor's delivery is engaging and informative, and he doesn't assume too much prior knowledge.
Listed as intermediate. It expects ETL basics but no cloud experience, though Glue newcomers say it moves fast.

Course Description
Learn the latest in AWS Glue - And learn to use it with other AWS resources.
In this growing world of data and growing cloud computing, it is necessary to have the core competency in cloud ETL tool also. AWS Glue come with the in built Spark support, Data Quality and data curation using Data brew. The top technology, finance and insurance companies like JPMC, Vanguard, BCBS, Amazon, Capital One, Capgemini, FINRA and more are all using AWS Glue to run their ETL on PetaBytes scale of data everyday.
AWS Glue provides server less and scalable ETL solution where scripts can be written in Python, Spark and currently using Ray. It also provides the visual drag and drop options to create the ETL pipelines. As now more and more companies are migrating to cloud it has caused an explosion in demand for this skill! With the mastery of AWS Glue, you now have the ability to quickly become one of the most knowledgeable people in the job market!
This course will teach the basics in AWS Glue Data Catalog, AWS Glue Studio, AWS resources such as IAM, SNS, KMS, CloudFormation, CloudWatch and continuing on to learning how to use AWS Glue to build ETL solution for the organization! Once we've done that we'll go through how to use the Glue Data Quality, Glue Streaming and Glue Data Brew ETL pipelines. All along the way you'll have multiple labs to create all the resources and ETL pipelines using AWS console and CloudFormation templates that you put you right into a real world situation where you need to use your new skills to solve a real problem!
This course now includes the role playing also to solidify your understanding on the concepts learned.

The AWS Glue - The Complete Masterclass on Udemy is a concise, highly practical 4-hour course designed to take learners through serverless ETL workflows on AWS without unnecessary fluff. It stands out by covering essential security and deployment patterns—such as setting up IAM roles, KMS encryption, and CloudFormation infrastructure—alongside modern platform features including Glue DataBrew recipes, Glue Data Quality, and Spark streaming. While its fast pacing and focus on infrastructure mean it offers lighter coverage on deep PySpark code optimization, it serves as an excellent, high-value resource for data and cloud engineers looking to quickly build and debug production-grade AWS Glue pipelines.

very hands on. very well explained. some pieces didn't work. had to figure it out. one piece didn't work no matter what. however, the training encouraged me to figure it out on my own--which is the point of learning.

The instructor's delivery is engaging and informative, and he doesn't assume too much prior knowledge. Course is very well structured in terms of sub-topics of AWS Glue, including DataBrew, which is the primary reason why I enrolled in it.

It is a great course, it has good examples and brief explanations of each topic. Personally, I enjoyed. There are a few things to improve in the videos, some of them are outdated which is not a big deal for this course, but it would be nice to have an updated version, and some of the steps are missing but they are easy to resolve.

the course is "good" and you get some good hands on the AWS services mentioned and promised... ...But - sometimes it is hard to follow, some conceptual flaws and a better slow paced course would have been better to raise structure and overview. I did manage the whole course, but I can imagine others struggle with it

The course was very thorough in the explanation of Glue and its abilities. The instructor was generally very clear in his approach and explanation. When viewing the instructor's AWS UI, there are alot of items that have nothing to do with the course (extra s3 buckets, glue jobs, etc). And it's not so clear what is there for just an example or if we should actually have the file that the instructor is using. Overall, I have a much better understanding of Glue which was the point of purchasing this course. Thank you!

This course on Udemy is truly exceptional and is one of the best and most up-to-date hands-on courses on this platform; in fact, it was recorded recently. Many courses here are sold as current, but were recorded 2 or 3 years ago. Although it's sometimes a bit difficult to keep track of the content because it's just so scattered in some cases that you occasionally have to rewind and re-watch the previous videos, I highly recommend this course.

I recently completed the AWS Glue course on Udemy and found it to be a worthwhile experience. The practical nature of the course, with hands-on AWS Glue projects, was definitely its standout feature. As a learner, being able to actively apply concepts helped cement my understanding, and I appreciate the course creators' approach. However, I did feel that there was room for improvement in some areas. In particular, I found that the course content didn't delve deeply enough into AWS Glue Job Scripts. While we did create Job Scripts as part of the course, there was a lack of detailed explanation surrounding them. It felt like we were often just told what to do, rather than being taught why we were doing it and how it fits into the larger picture of ETL processes. For learners new to AWS Glue, more comprehensive coverage of Job Scripts would definitely enhance the learning experience.

A lot of useful information, and covered a lot of topics. A few mistakes were made, which are called out in the Q&A already. I'd have liked more variety in the labs, where some of them felt redundant. Also, a bit more project work where it was less guided and we were simply given a task with some parameters, and an expected output. I did not care for editing out all of the pauses and job runs. It could have made for some valuable time to either elaborate on why we made the decisions we did, or what other options we may have considered. I frequently had to pause or rewind while implementing what was just described, rather than pausing to consider what I was doing and let it sink in.

The course content is crisp. If you are a beginner then keep AWS glue docs handy. Overall its good. I had no knowledge of AWS, I directly jumped on Glue. Instructor mentioned the basic terminologies as well. I think it some improvements could be done in the Cloudformation template section and also the scripts were directly provided. If one section was added on it, it would have helped. Cheers,
