Course Description

You'll learn the ins and outs of blockchain like only a blockchain programmer knows. Using only a few Python libraries, we'll build a cryptocurrency from the ground up. Even if you have very little programming experience we can help you through it!

You'll learn about digital signatures, hashing and proof-of-work mining. We'll design and build a scheme for decentralized consensus including communicating over TCP/IP sockets. Bring your basic knowledge of Python, and you'll emerge on the other side with a grasp of cryptocurrencies better than 99% of your peers and with a working prototype you can build on.

You'll make smarter cryptocurrency investment decisions, launch a career in blockchain programming or just be the smartest crypto-junkie in the room. Clear your weekend, click the enroll button and let's go!

The first part of the course is 'gold', I liked how blockchain topics where addressed. The implementation... well from the section 8 I think it becomes really messy. IMHO, too much focus spent on the implementation without good practices. I'm also adept of the TDD, but why not to use a dedicated tool for it? Overall, very interesting course, to me it was like a 'hands on' session for the The Basics of Bitcoins and Blockchains book.

Great course, it really explains the cryptocurrency and blockchain from the ground up. Not to mention that it is also an opportunity to learn Python. The only time I had to reach for the external source was during the course about mining because it was not clear to me how in the real world miner receives transactions. Nevertheless, this gets explained later in the course.

Overall a great course. Lots of detailed information. Got a lot of insight into world of miners, blockchain, coins. Frustrating parts - too many global variables. Difficult to keep track of. Naming convention of variable not standardized leading to names like newtx, newnewtx. Could help if start the course with a design discussion of different objects - Miner, Coin, Wallet, Helper objects where all the helper routines and globals reside. Then tackle one object at a time and then have courses that discuss the interactions. It was very confusing toggling between different modules. Assignment Solution (no 77) needs to be completely re-recorded.

I'm only about halfway through the course so far. But everything has been pretty excellent and the instructor has been pretty great with responding to questions. The course itself is very intimate, with the exact coding needed to create and work a blockchain. So far we haven't looked at the overarching blockchain industry or wallets and other third party software. This is so far looking at exactly how to hand-type your own blockchain line by line of code, what programs to use, how to install and where to find web scripts. There are good resources and so far I've been learning a lot more about Python. I'd recommend having a basic understanding of Python before you begin. Besides that if you want to know how to build your own blockchain from the ground up, this is probably one of the best courses you could enrol in.

I am not completed the course yet but I can tell that your explanations about blockchain fundamentals were pretty clear. But your Python coding was very bad. It looks like you learned Python just to create this course. I want to think that you over simplified your coding so beginners can understand. But this can lead beginners to learn python incorrectly. Thanks for a great course about blockchain I don't regret buying this course. But beginners should learn Python from someone else first. If I should I will change my review in the end. Thanks again.

This is one of the best course I ever had, what a perfect balance of lecture and hands-on exercises! Instructor pauses the course at the right point, to give you time to practice and in case you are stuck and ask questions, he is ever ready to reply and that too very quickly... Thanks Levi, wonderful course with great content and delivery.

Updating my previous review, which did focus a little bit too much on the negatives (including jarring transitions and an unfortunate experience with the IDLE IDE). The instructor tends to move quickly, which is generally quite good but does lead to a lot of pausing the video if you're trying to type along. His style is engaging and comfortable, and he goes through the process with experiencing all sorts of minor glitches along the way, making it more authentic than coding lessons where everything goes perfectly on the first try.

Wow! I came into this class with basic Python skills and only a basic understanding of blockchain technology. I have greatly improved both because of this course. The class is engaging and easy to follow. Several of these lesson are good short stand-alone videos about what a blockchain or cryptocurrency are, how they're secured, what vulnerabilities and exploits exist, and more. Highly, HIGHLY recommend!

This was a good course with a lot of hands-on work on developing the basics of a Crypto Currency, or a distributed ledger system. I liked the detail work, a lot. The long, blank spells, and the mis-focused screen (zoomed on the wrong spot) needs some work. I'm mixed on whether seeing the instructor make typos was good or bad: good, seeing everyone is human, but bad, in costing learning time. This course is definitely worthwhile, and took a lot of work to put together.

Dr Levi has done an amazing job putting this course together. One can tell right away how passionate he is about blockchain technology. I am about 50% done with this course and the support i have received is the best i have experienced on an udemy course. He is very responsive and very eager to help you understand the topic. Thanks Levi. I am still not done, so please expect more questions from me. Thank you again!
