Our take
Based on the ratings of 1,403 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in August 2019. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a narrow, practical course about breath for singing. Eric Arceneaux, a vocal coach who says he trains Broadway leads and competition finalists, teaches it across 41 lectures and about 5 hours. The syllabus moves from tactile breathing and anchoring the inhale to suspension, the open throat, trills, buzzy tones and bubble singing. It is aimed at working and aspiring singers, though the audience list also names public speakers and anyone dealing with hoarseness.
Reviewers are warm about the teaching. They describe him as likable, clear and passionate, and several say their voices feel freer after the exercises. One says a technique called the coup de glotte helped with chronic hoarseness, and another is still using the course after three years. A German reviewer says it helped them sing again after a vocal cord inflammation. The only critical review in the sample, a 3-star from 2019, says there is too much talking and the material could be tighter.
The course was last updated in August 2019. That matters little for breathing technique, but nothing has been added since. A 4.8 rating from 1,403 reviews, with 1,156 of them five stars, and about 3,300 students make it a well-liked pick. It is narrower than the full vocal systems it sits beside, so treat it as a specialist add-on. Worth it if breath support is the weak spot.
Pros
- Practice-along drills such as trills, bubble singing and hand seal, taught step by step
- Reviewers report less hoarseness and a freer, less strained voice after the exercises
- Teaching described as clear, personable and passionate, with a good pace
- Rated 4.8 across 1,403 reviews, with 1,156 of them five stars
Cons
- One early reviewer found it wordy, with too much talking between drills
- Last updated in 2019, so nothing newer has been added since
- Covers breath only, not repertoire, style or a full vocal curriculum
Eric brilliantly blends the old Italian Bel Canto techniques with a modern twist, making these tried and tested methods accessible for the aspiring singer.
Labeled All Levels with no prerequisites, though the audience list leans toward working and aspiring professional singers.

Course Description
This course contains 10 step-by-step lessons designed to help you maximize your vocal potential by tapping into the natural power source of your breath. These videos contain the very same techniques taught to my private clients: lead cast members in Broadway Musicals like Hamilton; finalists/winners of voice competitions like The Voice, The X Factor, and Sunday Best; actors on shows like The Magicians, Star, and Grey's Anatomy; and major label recording artists of all genres. We believe in the old Italian saying, "Chi sa respirare, sa cantare"--He who knows how to breathe, knows how to sing!

Vielen vielen Dank!!!

Eric brilliantly blends the old Italian Bel Canto techniques with a modern twist, making these tried and tested methods accessible for the aspiring singer. For me, the coup de glotte (stroke of the glottis) was very helpful as I used to let too much air pass through my vocal tract and always had problems with hoarseness. The other highly beneficial thing I learnt was to expand the ribs so that the air can just come straight in when you breathe into your back. It’s so important to separate the breathing-in muscles from the in-breath - completely unlocked my voice. Thanks Eric for all your help! Raphael

This is the best training resource for singing I've ever found. I've worked with other coaches in person and online and nobody could help me as much as this program did. It's taken my singing to the levels I dreamed of, I'm accomplishing goals that I set years ago. All thanks to this and to you, my friend! I can't thank you enough. PS this helped me with all of my body issues from years of guitar playing in the ways that I needed and looked for years. Just unbelievable. I do this program everyday. Thank you.

I highly recommend this program. I went through Eric’s other 2 (phase 1 and phase 2) Aaproach courses. They are all really Awesome!!! Eric is a wonderful instructor—funny, charming, relatable—and his breathing techniques really work wonders. My voice quality has improved, and I feel like my body supports me whenever I’m ready to sing a note. I highly recommend his program, but I will advise you that you go through its entirety at least two times through to get optimal results. Being mindful and connected to your body is key! Enjoy cultivating your fancy new voice (:

This is a great course on breath work. Eric masterfully combines exposition (talking about anatomy, relevant physics, posture, etc) with exercises promoting healthy breathing with the intent of being a better singer. The course is professionally recorded, well organized, and easy to follow. All of the exercises he presents have clear purposes and the material builds upon itself in a logical way. This is definitely the best course I have taken on Udemy.

If you are a singer. You need this course. This will help you with your growth. I bought this a few months ago. I wanted to wait to do my review. Most definitely worth the money. The growth my voice has seen is amazing.

I am so satisfied with this course. I would strongly recommend to anyone who wants to start or improve singing. I do think it involes a lot of hard work and discipline to get used to the techiniques but it is so satisfying to notice the voice getting clearer and less tensioned. Excellent course!

*I waited to finish this before leaving a review* This helped a lot with my breathing! I used to get vocal strain singing and it makes sense now how to prevent it. I think this is something you need to keep practicing even after finishing but its a good resource. Definitely helpful if you pace yourself and are intentional with the practices.
