Course Description
The Cisco Data Centers | VXLAN EVPN course aims to provide a resource for network engineers to understand and deploy VXLAN EVPN technology for today’s data centers and to help CCIE/CCNP Data Center (v3.1) certification candidates prepare well for their exams.
This VXLAN EVPN course begins with an introduction to the current data center challenges before going into the technology building blocks. It also provides an overview of the evolution of the data center fabric.
The VXLAN EVPN course takes a deep dive into the various fabric semantics, including the underlay, control plane & data plane interaction, unicast and multicast forwarding flows, and external data center interconnect deployments.
This VXLAN EVPN content has been designed with a broad audience in mind while specifically targeting Cisco certification candidates, network architects, engineers, and operators. You do not have to be a networking professional or data center administrator to benefit from this course.
This VXLAN EVPN material is an authoritative guide for network professionals with an in-depth understanding of various networking areas, explaining detailed control and data plane concepts, with VXLAN and BGP EVPN being the primary focus. Detailed packet flows are presented, covering numerous functions, features, and deployments.
This professional development and foundational learning course contains the following:
High-quality, technical on-demand videos cover all essential topics.
Lab demos for better implementation understanding.
Quizzes for knowledge review.
Workbook for practical exercises (helps for CCIE LAB DOO questions).
External resources that allow you to extend your knowledge.

Hi, I’m Salman — 2× CCIE (ENT & DC, #56363),
ex-Cisco TAC; currently an Expert Professional Services (NCE) consultant.
I’ve worked in networking since 2010, designing, migrating, and automating Cisco Data Center environments for global enterprises. My specialty is Cisco ACI, VXLAN EVPN, Routing, Switching, and Automation.
My teaching style is lab-first and production-minded: clear mental models → reproducible labs → templates/CSV files → repeatable playbooks. You’ll learn how to design, implement, automate, and verify, with the gotchas I’ve seen in the field.
What you can expect: step-by-step labs, deep diagrams, downloadable resources, and exam-level aligned to CCIE Data Center skills—so you can ship reliable networks faster and with confidence.
I hold a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering and have completed numerous technical certifications:
Data Center Networking Certifications:
✓ CCIE Data Center
✓ CCNP Data Center
✓ Specialist - Data Center ACI Implementation
✓ CCNA Data Center

1) little emphasis on underlay multicast routing, why choose and how to configure 2) many things come unexaplined - why use for vPC overlay peering OSPF rather than BGP commonly used for overlay 3) why use loopbacks for keepalive link and yet in default VRF - this is the least preferred optin. a) dedicated link using dedicated vrf b) mgmt0 interface c) routed over l3 infra

The content and explanations were clear and easy to understand. The lab demonstration was especially engaging and added great value to the session. I would appreciate it if you could share the presentation slides shown at the end, as they would be very helpful for future reference. Thank you.

Prior to entering this course I knew next to nothing about VXLAN EVPN architecture. I finished the course with a solid understanding of the concepts and how to configure them successfully. Great course, with very clear and effective communication.

Thanks Salman for explaining complex topics in such a simple and easy to understand manner . Your way of explanation and then Lab demo , keep me engaged . Is there any way we can perform this lab in any virtual env ?

I appreciate the gradual reveal of the details, overview to concept, concept to scenarios, scenarios to examples of REAL frame/packet captures. This is much more engaging and informative compared to the official courses on Cisco U.

I'm about 1/2 way through the course and so far this has been a VERY helpful course. I need to understand VXLAN for work and this has so far been a great masterclass on this topic to bring me up to speed! Thanks for the great content

I think it's a good course, short and straight to the point, can't complain. But I'd it to be a bit longer, I mean more explanation of why something work this way and showing to us on CLI. Besides that, I had to study multicast from other sources to understand how it's used in this context. Thanks Salman!

Great diagrams, easy to understand, well organized, useful downloads. This gave a very good explanation down to the packet headers for VXLAN. EVPN with VXLAN was well covered. Labs I'll have to find time to setup but the demos were great even if you do not have the hardware. Great instructor.

This is the best VXLAN EVPN lecture have ever watched so far. The instructor knows the stuff and he presented it in a simple and concise manner. I really enjoyed it. He should continue to provide more Data Center contents in the future on Udemy. Well done!

Good one, however the sad part is I'm not able to go through the assignments again. I just browsed them to see how it looked like, however when i wanted to really work on it, i do not see those to be available. Can you make them available to revision ?
